Yviestevie, I think I may join you for the visit to the garden centre. I did manage to prep the soil that I wanted to, but once my fingers lost all feeling I decided to come in. I'm brave, but not a flipping martyr.
Hi Tootles. Once established, Gooseberries need to be pruned hard in winter and summer. Keep the center open so air can circulate. As yours is only a year old I would give it a slight haircut.
switched the heated prop bench back on and sowed my canna and heychium seeds which I soaked overnight and a tray of sweet peas. The noise of the rain on the polytunnel drove my back indoors.
I had planned to spend all day in the garden but the rain put paid to that ! .. Finally got out for half and hour before the light faded. Tidied up my decking area ready for my summer house delivery tomorrow
Well, haven't been on here for what seems forever. Good to read a few threads and catch up on what people are up to. I managed to get to the allotment yesterday and today. I think I witnessed sunshine, wind, rain and hailstones all within an hour yesterday. Glad I went this morning as this afternoon was raining and very cold.
Got a big patch of earth dug over. OH made good the raspberry supports and we cleared a couple of raised beds. Also managed to weed around the autumn onion sets and the garlic which seem to be doing well.
Spent Friday evening setting seeds at the dining room table in the warm and set the propagator on the windowsill.
Hand planned to clean the greenhouse a bit too, but the weather got the better of me in the end.
It's good to get back out and feel like I've made a good start. Phew . . .

I have been pruning gooseberries this morning. Quite difficult when you're not too sure what you're doing
thank goodness for YouTube!

I didn't know that gooseberry plants needed pruning. mine is only a year old. Should I be giving it a haircut fruitcake?

Aiming to get some salad bits sown tomorrow.

I managed to stay out until 2ish but then lost the feeling in my fingers so admitted defeat and returned indoors.
