Got a fair bit done before I cracked my knee cap on the house wall.
Moved Bee Balm to back of border, moved Red Campion to where Bee Balm was. Moved a Rhododendron to where Red Campion was and planted a Box cone where the Rhodo was. One day I'll plant things in the right place to start with. Dug up a Euonymus that had a scale infestation, been trying to eradicate the damn bugs for a year now and have finally given up and will be planting Taxus Standishii in its place.
after years of procrastination, dug out the enormous zephirine drouhin and gave it the toss.
it's never a really good rose here but this year just as it came into bloom the temp went to 32C, humidity dropped to 6%, and the wind gusted to 45 mph. the flowers went in one day and now so has zephirine.
Gorgeous day here today, moved nearly a ton of stone to fill in thin patches across my garden paths, especially where little paws skid round when having a nutty.
Stopped for visitors and then planting up part of my large sunny border with Lupin masterpiece and those tangerine geums that all the Chelsea designers can't get enough of at the moment.
But first I had to remove a pale blue iris and a small leaved hebe with white flowers that just wasn't working. The hebe got sent straight back to where it's parent used to live before it got trampled, the iris got chopped into three pieces and potted up, free plants, yes please and thank you very much
Finished a gorgeous afternoon by potting on my shop bought Cosmos and my self sown Rudbeckia and Cerythe, if that's how you spell it
I have bought 3 Geranium nodosum 'Silverwood' and a deep purple nodosum seedling. And, for some inexplicable reason, a variegated lily of the valley. They say it's not invasive like the plain one. Does that count as gardening?
"What is hateful to you, do not do to your neighbour".
Planted some more Clary that I grew from seed. Moved a Tiarella, only about a foot but it made all the difference. Did lots of weeding and tidying. Also planted some perennial violas.
Just back today from a week in Corfu - incredible exotic plants there plus of course loads of the ubiquitous red 'geraniums' (actually Pelargoniums). Unfortunately did not manage to get to a garden centre to browse. Glad to see it had rained while away and the garden has not suffered - weeds rampant though! Dahlias seem to have survived slug onslaught for now.
I've spent the day trying to clean all the paving around the house as our garden opening is in a fortnight's time. I used Patio Magic till that ran out - it doesn't seem to go very far and then resorted to a splash of Fairy Liquid and bleach scrubbed with a brush. We made the mistake of being seduced by beautifully pale Indian sandstone with fossils in it about 8 years ago, to match the Bath stone of the house, but it's a nightmare to keep clean.
Tried a power washer last year which did the business but took all the mortar out and was jolly hard work - anybody got any other recommendations please?
