Anyone done any gardening today?

  • Spent the morning in the garden. Cleared out the weeds from the borders, looks like one of the neighbours let a Willowherb run to seed last year. This will be a fun spring.

On the other hand, I did find a near smothered Yarrow that I had forgotten about. Also finished planting the hedging. West side of the garden is Blackthorn/Elder/Dog Rose and Hazel, South side is all Dog Rose to climb up the boundary fence. East side is Holly with gaps that either need more Holly or something else.

  • Planted out broad beans as well Lizzieimage then tried to clear front bed ready for revamp , white margaritas ??? Seedlings everywhere must have self seeded from last yearimage

  • Fed my roses today, will feed my box topiary in the next few days because I have noticed new growth.  Took cuttings from bowles mauve.  Looked at my sweet peas, looking perky in the ground.  Got back ache!

When we were in the greenhouse earlier i found what looks to be three dead sticks in a pot! Tipped the pot out and found small bulbs and roots. Wonder if it might be lilies? I need to keep an eye on my labels...... Put it back where it was so see what happens image

Lots of seedlings coming up, sown 12 days ago.  Cosmos is romping away but nothing to see in my trays of petunias, cleome and coleus.

Lovely sunny day here but no outdoor work for me as I'm full of a cold and feel rotten. Instead I've been busy looking at second hand greenhouses on ebay.

    • Tied in last climbing rose to arch; I am a bit late pruning it a little around the edges, but its had food so should recover amply over next few weeks.
    • Finished filling raised bed with soil, planted a climber at back and mulched.

Thinking about what else can go in the bed, its 1/3 full sun, 2/3 part shade and very shelteredimage

Didn't think I'd get out there today but talked myself into it.  Moved some plants into the greenhouse to harden off a bit.  Moved Cleome, Aquilegia and Ammi Majus off the heated propogator and onto self watering trays and sown lobelia blue cascade, Petunia Daddy F1 and Didiscus Blue Lace. They are now warming up nicely on the propogator. Not much but it all helps.

All grey and cool here today.

Got some Purple Loosestrife and Primrose plugs in the post, so braved going out for an hour dotting them around. The Purple Loosestrife was a back-up to ones that I planted last Autumn. Looked at them last week and they were not moving. Putting in the new ones today I noticed the originals are starting to get going, so now I have twice as many image

I started to prune back my hardy fuchsias but only got two done when I noticed my eyes were itching with the pollution so came in.  The sun has come out now so perhaps I will do another half hour and take the green wheeliebin down to the gate.  My garden is only a mile or so from the M5 traffic and our local prk has the highest pollution in Bristol.  Not good for asthma and heart troubles.
