.Another brilliant day has dawned A friend coming to tea so have to bake some scones to go with the strawberries but the rest of the morning will be devoted to the garden. My new garvinias are showing their colour, looks like two orange and one red so where is the yellow one ? So many of my friends have been disaoppointed in the colour of the flowers they ordered. There seems to be some slackness in labelling .
You Gazanias is looking very vibrant Marion, hope you get your yellow one, it's so annoying when your looking for to seeing it, hope you have a lovely day baking and enjoying time with your friend .
its dry again but very grey again, I was hoping for more sun as it's my week off, anyway at least it's dry .
My friend and I enjoyed a three hour chinwag and he enjoyed my scones and strawberries and ice cream. He brought me some very well grown cosmos "Sonata" plants he had grown and some cleomes. The sun shone most of the time and he admired my broad bean crop in the potager. I have just thoroughly enjoyed Kate Humble being a Mongolian nomad and ready for bed now. I wonder whether we will get some rain tonight. The garden does need it.
No rain through the night and another bright warm day has dawned though the forecast is for a risk of thundery showers later on. Lots of strawberries, blackcurrants and broad beans to pick and may dig up some potatoes for the weekend meals. Now have lots of new plants needing homes after my friend's visit yesterday but that would be easier after a shower or two. I was pleased to be able to show him lots of buds on the hemerocallis plants he brought me last autumn as they had not flowered for him . Some of them have dark red buds so he was right when he said they were a mixture of colours from yellow through orange to red.
Pollen has been very high this week, flumpy making lots of people sneeze. Had an email to say how much my friend enjoyed the "Tea and Talk" and the garden visit and he is enjoying the strawberries he had to take home.
I did wonder if the pollen was high thanks Marion, that's nice that he's emailed you back Marion, you sound like your always busy and have lots of friends too : )
Awww thank you, Runnybeak. I have gardened in this site organically for 51 years so the garden is in equilibrium and takes care of itself naturally. so I do not have any trouble from pests and diseases. I have been known to carry ladybirds from conifers in the front garden where there are always lots up to aphids i spot in the back garden on beans or roses. But that is as far as I go with pest control.
Midsummer's day but no sunshine it seems for Bristol although mostly dry and warm. However fresher than yesterday and low pollution so should be pleasant working in the garden. i will treat the house to some flowers when I go to harvest the fruit and veg and rescue anything that needs water. Yesterday while up there I noticed the honeysuckle is smothering the bushes with flowers this year and a spike of yucca flower has appeared.
