  • Just the weeding and some 50 or so bulbs to plant and I will have matched yesterday's effort.  Time for lunch now and to post today's pics which show how spring, summer and autumn are all represented in plants on the one day.

  • Went up to the potager to get some big potatoes to make chips to go with my fish for supper and was amazed at how big they had grown.

Ho Marion the second picture is my favourite the big pink flower image, you've got quite a lot of potatoes there, hope you enjoyed your tea.

the weather looked nice here today, not liking it going dark at 8.15 image, your new plants look nice Marion, hope your putting your feet up now image

  • Yes that is a lovely dark pink gerbera - supposed to be hardy but we will see.  This is the first year I have grown them.  My home made fish and chips was lovely with my tomato salad all from my own produce except the fish.  Yes, I am whacked after a good day's gardening but only one ear is aching now so hopefully the other will recover soon.  It is going to be even warmer tomorrow.   I shall have lots of new plants to photograph next year.

Hello Marion.  We stopped in the car park near the sports oval to eat some lunch today in town and Hubby took this photo to show you. It's Acacia boormanii, Snowy River Wattle.   There are shrubs opening up all over the place. So nice after the drabness of winter.   Glad your ear is improving. It's so debilitating to have that constantly zapping you, I know.

  • Oh thank your husband so very much for the photo, Pat - it is like a huge sun, so cheerful.  I slept in this morning and no ache in either ear so far .  Weather is dry and set fair and becoming warmer.  We are forecast to reach 21 degrees tomorrow.  I will try and do my whole list again today.  The Michaelmas daisies are showing buds now so they will be joining the chrysanthemums soon.  We are having a raffle for funds for the Bristol group of the Alpine Garden Society at our first meeting of this session on friday night so will take some of my apples and pears for that.

Sounds good, Marion.  We had a good day today also. Cold start but lovely sunny day. Bit of wind, but tolerable.  I weakened and bought a tomato plant from Woolworth's today in a 4" pot.  It's a Grosse Lisse. I'm probably pushing my luck. But it can go in the small GH on the veranda. It gets the morning sun there (if there is any) and is sheltered from cold winds.  If it survives the next period, I'll pot it on gradually until the weather warms up properly and can either go into the big GH or outside into the garden.  My germinated tomato seeds are still at the two leaf stage, so this one might get me started early.   I told Hubby you liked the wattle.  image

  • The superb sales offers are still coming into my inbox so i have just fallen for 27o spring bedding plants for £12.99.  Good job i had a heating rebate of £99 from British Gas this month - being out in the garden all day does safe on electricity as I do not cook so much or watch TV.  The plants are violas, bellis, primroses and primulas.  So more to add to my daily list now as they are going into my Persian Carpet garden which will need weeding.

The Persian carpet garden sounds interesting. What a nice idea.

I'm curious, why do you get a rebate for gas?  We have solar panels which produce electricity to the main grid and we get about a third off our electricity bell each quarter, depending on sunny/overcast days. We've worked out that it'll probably take about 10 years to get our initial outlay back, but that was a decision we made at the time and I don't feel guilty using the tumble dryer or electric heater if I need to.

  • I pay my gas and electricity bills by direct debit from the bank every month but they tend to overestimate which means a rebate usually at the end of each quarter.  People used to complain a lot about this when the interest rates were high but they are zero now and have been for some  years.
