A tad cooler this morning because of the east wind but still forecast to reach 15 which is fine for gardening as it is dry. No need to do any cooking as I did a lot too much for my dinner party last night so have plenty of leftovers. Just as well as I get very hungry out in the garden all day now my appetite has returned. Definitely will need to do some watering today.
I do love this Recycle, Re-use fever that has gripped Bristol since it became Green Capital of Europe but my goodness it does pile on the work. one of the fourteen terracotta pots that arrived with the family bearing gifts last night has been planted up only (small pittosporum and two yellow pansies) only 13 more to go.
You sound like you had a nice night last night Marion, loving your yellow Tulips, mine seem to be all big red ones but the look good don't they
I went to my local garden centre today as the Osteospermums where in stock, so I got light pink, dark pink, white and yellow ho and I couldnt resist the Gazanias
They where all on the table, I've now put them in the fence planters and dotted around our garden
Well done, flumpy you are going to have a fine show. Those yellow tulips were in my friends window boxes last year and this is their second showing. I shall plant them out in the garden and let them naturalise now. Amazing how they all flowered again.
Feels a lot colder in the house this morning but no wind out there so, despite the lack of sunshine which I am missing having enjoyed it for so long, It will be comfortable working outside today. I have a long list needing to be done. I like having long lists simply for the satisfaction I get when I make a big tick after the item. Reminds me of the long list of homework I used to have to get through every evening when I was at secondary school in Scotland! Studying was just as enjoyable and challenging to me as gardening is and I can remember my father encouraging me when I complained that I was taking so long to understand some things when others in the class "clicked" at once by telling me that I would remember what I had learned much longer than they would because I had made the effort. Now in my dotage I find it easier to remember the Latin names of plants than the common ones so I think he was right.
Oh my goodness my environmentally friendly garden has never looked so beautiful and so productive. I have tiny plums already and masses of soft fruit, apple, pear and plum blossom. Here are half of the pics, more later when I have ticked off a few more things on my list.
Your garden is looking simply gorgeous there's all different shades of flowers and leaves it looks lovely, I could sit for hours in your garden listening to the birds and admiring the plants
Marion are you originally from Scotland?
i had the same problem at school, I had to study more to get things to sink in and yet other subjects where easy to me, it was so frustrating sometimes because people used to play around in lessons whilst others really wanted to learn
Scots born and bred till end of four years at St. Andrews University, flumpy I came to Bristol the weekend of the Queen's Coronation in 1953. I had to go to the shops for milk but have ticked two things off today's list and hope to get another two done before the Sunday visitors arrive. I am busy working my way through my miles of paths, cutting back greenery, sweeping, tidying edges. for my open day next month.
