I'm itching to go up there and see if I can get some potatoes but they were only planted at the beginning of June so I'm not sure if any will be ready
The stupid thing about that woman was when I mentioned to her that it might not be the best idea to wear them, she pointed at my flip flops and said that I was wearing them too... Yes dear, but I am not waving a sharp implement around my feet. I am weeding and therefore don't need to worry so much about my footwear *sigh*
Hello everybody , we have just Harvested " chick peas " and my good lady turned them into a really tasty Hummus . Never grow them before so only put a few in , really easy to grow , will be putting more in next year , would definitely recommend them
Hi as someone who has helped out at others allotments and now co-own one I would agree about a plan as a long turn aim but go easy. It is hard work ,but fun ,I would reallocate the carpet /plastic to keep the worst bits covered until you can get to them and begin with a few manageable beds , Grow something you hope cant fail!! spuds [purple ones are great] beans of all sorts ,some tough as boots flowers so there's some instant reward . Seeing some precious, exotic being gobbled can be very dispiriting. good luck
Chick peas grow just like peas but there is only 1 pea per pod , give it go
I grow purple spuds they are " Albert Bartlett Purple Majesty " and the best bit is they keep there colour when cooked , purple mashed spuds really add some colour on the dinner plate
somebody gave me some purple sprouts hope they come good for Christmas
Really like the idea of the different coloured veg. Have some purple carrot seed, I believe that carrots used to be purple before they were bred to be orange.
I hadn't been to my allotment for over a week, and now I have enormous pattypan squash, lovely to look at but I have to look for recipes
The squash is bright yellow outside, creamy colour inside, and look like small flying saucers. They don't have much flavour,so I shall try and stuff one, and I have been told they are good in stir fry.
The rest of the allotment is going well, I have learnt a lot in my first year. Next year I wont plant so many runner beans. Making a whole meal from veg I had grown was a wonderful feeling.
