Fruitcake, good luck, nothing ventured nothing gainedimage

Been on the plot today. Built a bonfire and burned the old shed along with lots of roots. Also moved nearly everything I want from the old plot. Just a few herbs, snowdrops and a thornless blackberry to replant.

The next plot holder should get a nice harvest of strawberries, plums and currants this yearimage.

There was also a nice suprise waiting this morning ,a pile of wood chippings had been delivered and the plot holder next door donated a pile of bricks to make paths with image

  • It's the same as I posted on the Anyone done any gardening today thread but I CBA to  type it all out again... image

Today I've been at my other plot, trying to have a go at the gooseberries and getting nowhere image there is couch grass galore around them and I seriously think that the only way I'm getting in there is by a bloody good pruning image

soil too wet to remove couch grass roots so decided to make a proper start on the area for the chickens; we have dug trenches around where the frame for the run is going to be, so we can dig wire down, and levelled out the ground ready for the frame to go up, which hopefully will be next weekend image

my lovely new wellies are being delivered tomorrow, so hopefully depending on the weather and what time they arrive, I may well go and make a start on the tasks I have at both plots! I'd never have had time for this if I'd stayed working lol

    Hi everyone!

Fruitcake, thanks for posting about the fruit bushes at Aldi, I went today and bought gooseberries and red currants, what a bargain! Unfortunately I bought Belgium buns and chocolate covered raisins.....eeeeekkkk that wasn't the plan !

The new greenhouse has arrived, weather permitting it will be assembled by 'other half' next weekend image

We also took delivery of 2 water butts today......Sunday delivery!!!! Apparently the courier wanted a day off tomorrow so took the chance of trying to do his deliveries today.

I too am reducing my working hours. I currently have 2 jobs, one of which is self employed and due to early signs of arthritis and RSI, I will be giving this work up as it aggravates my condition. Whilst I will miss my work and the lovely clients that I have, it will mean I can get more time on the veggie garden......every cloud has a silver lining !

Tomorrow is a day off for me so I'm hoping to get my plans down on paper and make an orderly 'to do' list image

Zoomer, youve been busy again, bet that bonfire was welcome in this cold weather!

  • Woo its a shame you have to give up part of your work image RSI is not good at all, I have been having physio for the same recently. I am in the process of setting up as an SE typist and it's not easy!

Silver lining is always very good, especially where gardeny things are concerned image

  • Morning everyone a lovely crisp morning it is too lawn has a white carpet no snow of course it rarely pays us a visit imageI suppose you're fed up with snow those of you have it.

Good luck Fruitcake with the 'good life' Zoomer must have been lovely to have a fire and to have a good clear up.

Last yr I took early retirement although won't get the OAP, bus pass etc for several yrs but have an excellent work pension. Works perfectly for all of us as a family. I do work occasionally just to keep up to date with my profession and to 'catch up' with colleagues. I'm actually busier then ever doing things I've never had time to do.

On our site the plots are checked yrly nearer rent time-sept. To be honest if you pay up you retain it, most are very nice and the non gardeners ones probably get away with it which is very annoying!

  • I got show perfection peas to grow this year from the potato day so will try and grow them like Jo Jo off the big allotment challenge

Woo2 good you got some fruit bushes even if you got extras, good to get water butts and on a Sunday delivery

Fruitcake sound good idea to dig down to put chicken wire in got to protect those chickens when you get them, what colour wellies?

Zoomer44 great for a pile of wood chippings, are you making your main path out of bricks?

Weyplotter I guess around rent paying time you do get some that don't pay so plots could become available

I wanted to see how far down the list I have moved got a reply today from my email but the system does not keep record of what number you were when you started on the list so it could still be 3 months to wait

  •  went to my plot yesterday to cover some of the beds with black polythene,( its re cycled plastic wrapping from the carpets that get delivered at my work.)in the hope this will warm up the soil ready for planting.

Sowed my first lot of seeds, just some giant leeks for now, will do some more over the coming weeks, but cant do too many at this time of year as the greenhouse is too cold and I leave my seed trays on the kitchen floor near the french doors !

Got new wellies too this yearimage (they are green GG!!)

  • Fruitcake very girly do look nice and strong to last a while
