Been out today visiting Lincoln's " steam punk " event
Hoping to havest main crop potatoes this week depends on weather , forecast not to good next week !
The allottment association has bought some special chemical to spray horsetail , several plots have got a the damned stuff , mines not to bad restricted to bottom of the plot , have been spraying one section but it is tuff stuff
Went to the allotment on Friday got a bit wet even with umbrella was meant to be sunny, had to shelter a bit on next doors plot - the soil I was trying to sort through to go back into the hole got very wet gloves very muddy and my muck boots very muddy the plot turned in to Glastonbury wet and muddy
After a bit weather dried up manage to get weeding done around my plants and harvest a few potatoes even got runner beans given to us
Saturday as ground still wet muddy - thought I would see how much I could cut down of the weeds with the long armed grass sheers armed with wrist and bit up arm bandages as know it will hurt - spent the time cutting down weeds as low as possible some twigs were stiff to cut though
I heard a noise in the weeds and movement on my plot thought it might of been a rat but I found a frog so went put it in the pond next doors plot
Yep today arms are shaking a bit - shower and lots of muscle cream
Zoomer44 will try find a local business park think there is one Eastleigh way which is not too far - may try that Friday
Gg...How brave picking up a frog. Good luck with the pallet search.
Visited the plot today to water the GH and pick some toms, also started to pick mini pop.
Bulb fennel has bolted, picked a couple of bulbs on my last visit but will cut the leaves now for cooking, I love the smell when you brush past them. I've a row of corriander which produces a fab smell when brushed past.
Pat - I dry chillies in the GH, when most of the fruit has turned red, just cut the whole plant at the stem and hang it upside down, suspended from the roof, was going to try drying some herbs in the same way. Will check out the cost of a drying machine though...

Bank holiday Monday and it is raining and forecast all day , so no allottment , in fact forcast bad all week
O/H pickled all the shallots now , still some beetroot todo but that's still in the ground
I dry my chillies individually hanging in rows from a line in the conservatory , using cotton , hope that makes sense , they are only just starting to turn
wanted to dig my main crop potatoes up this week but want a dry day
Its good that you can get harvests going over there, even though I've read in the various threads that rain has been a problem for some of you. I managed to harvest some lovely young turnips today as well as picking some broccolini leaves. I can't believe how fast they are growing at the moment. We've had light rain for almost a week, and even though the days haven't been warm, everything seems to appreciate the extra water. I even saw a couple of broccoli heads starting to make an appearance. I'm looking forward to that. Hopefully, the cabbage white butterflies don't emerge for a while.
Been to allottment this afternoon dug a bed of potatoes up , o/h harvested cauliflower x 2 , loads of beans , broccoli and dug up plants for compost , couple courgette , cabbage and beetroot , so lots of veg the next few days
1 more bed of main crop potatoes to dig up next week , like to dry them before sorting and putting in paper sacks
toms coming thick and fast and down to last 2 cucumbers , been a good year so far

Zoomer44 picked up the frog with gloves on it did try and escape a few times but made it to the plot behind mine pond - fennel does smell nice
Been to the allotment for a few hours done some more cutting down of weeds, I can now see how up and down the plot is
Just need to find something to cover the soil free or cheap try to keep the weeds down
Gardengirl , once it had been dug you could look into "green manure" , I have found it useful , I know it doesn't suit everybody
I have covered the ground with plastic sacks as a temporary measure before now
whatever you decide best of luck
