Lucky you GWRS, a Medlar tree, they are rare these days! Like the clematis idea.
My winter jobs will be putting my grow house back together as it collapsed in the winds (think I will tape the joints to secure them) . Carry on painting my bits of trellis.Build some decent compost areas with pallets (the ones i have at the moment are a bit rubbish!
Went to our local Heart Foundation charity book shop yesterday and got a really nice allotment book for £3.00 (was £19.99) brand new condition. Shows what to do month by month, so I will leave it in my shed for reference when I need it.(after I have had a good read) Got 2 other books too, one is RHS encyclopedia of Herbs and the other is Old Gardeners tales (might give that to my Dad though!)
Now I get you Zoomer was thinking with the shed with no door you could have a horse stable style door as in two bits top and bottom bit one that opens and one bit shut made out of quite a few bits of wood and then you could bolt them together to open at same time
Great find Ginagibbs with the book
Thanks for the picture GWRS was thinking of the offer from GW of clematis great idea for the water butts if I can grow them on to make bigger plants
Just popped in to check what everyone's been doing ! Busy week work wise for me so no gardening done at all. I hate these dark evenings!
Im envious when I read what you've all been up to( I mean that in a nice way ) I do enjoy reading all the threads. I've been browsing the Kings seed catalogue, first time I've had one from them, and I must admit Im pleased with the range and varieties they sell and all the info they give. Will definately be ordering from them.
its raining outside at the moment so not sure what we have instore for the weekend but hope you all manage to 'get out there'...enjoy!
I've been on both plots today- on the first, all I had to do was put some growmore down. On the second, we put a little cage together for leaves, picked up an ebay wheelbarrow that wouldn't fit in the car so had to be taken apart, put it back together again and took a load of leaves that we had in bags in the greenhouse. We then walked round to the plot with the barrow, leaving it there. Not really much else that could have been done, even though it hasn't rained here for a few days, the ground is still far too wet to do anything with
Spent the afternoon doing jobs in the back garden today instead of going to the allotment. Did a general tidy up, dug up some dahlias and galdioli bulbs, hoping to grow both on the allotment next year.
ginagibbs sounds like you got some bargin books. 'The Practical Step-By- Step book of Allotment Gardening' has been my bible this year, even took it on holiday and read it on the plane
Fruitcake - more are likely to follow. My garlics getting a tab bit pot bound, if it doesn't go in the ground tomorrow I'm thinking of potting it up and leaving it till next year to plant out. Planted up 50 onions today me thinks I'll leave those in the GH till next year.
The forcast here, for tomorrow is looking good, with sun shine mid day

Edd good question , the A - associations has mains water and 3 tapes for the whole site plus 2 very long
hosepipes on trollies and you can buy water at £3 per filled cube which is very reasonable as they hold 1000 litres
I also has water butts the other side of the shed which fills via the shed guttering
