Your allotment has been so good GWRS!  My garden is only now starting to wake up After one of the coldest winters in several years. The recent week of drizzle has moved things along.   I notice this morning that there is a heavy frost outside, but I'm not going out to test it. Our dog is the only one who has been out so far.  I'm harvesting chard, kale, turnip and broccolini leaves, and enjoying them very much.

its 7.30am here and I'm still in bed but can smell coffee wafting from the kitchen. No point getting up when it's nice and warm here! image

I've given up trying pumpkins here. Our summer is too short for them to finish off.  I get heaps of zucchini though and they fill some of that dietary need.   We had a lovely sunny day today after the initial cold.  I'm glad to stop and flopp in front of the TV now though. image (6.45pm).

And here is some of my plot and where it has been cut down with the long arm grass sheers takes a while to do - you can see how uneven the ground is

Wanting to go to the allotment tomorrow and see if I can cut down some more and lots of other things to do as well there

Today going to try and get some pallets

Gardengirl , that grass looks like hard work , have thought about spraying with weed killer or a section of it ?

  • GWRS thanks -  trying not to spay weed so far,  it is hard going

Well today managed to gets loads of pallets went for a few trips to get some and had mum and dad helping so 2 cars could be used  -  the pallets are not quite the ones I want for building the shed  - they will be for other projects fence bits compost bins

Also managed to get a few large bits of thick cardboard which will be good for weed cover                        pics to follow sometime when put on computer

  • Went to the allotment plot today used the push mower a lot doing the paths from the car around the plot past my plot along near next doors plot - so if I use the other water tap don't have to go though long grass

A person on plot near by was taking his gh down - someone else said that person moved house and got a big garden, only seen them twice I think,  near the beginning of getting an allotment plot

Trimmed down a lot of grass and weeds another area cleared found rubbish underneath some sort of plastic which broke up - now area covered with some cardboard and old compost bags

Did anyone get some gardening done?

Not really gardening, but did pick a few vegetables for dinner which we both enjoyed.  We spent a couple of hours out the back of the property cutting more firewood.  Hopefully that'll be the last for the season.  I'm looking forward to the weather getting a bit warmer.  Morning all.image

Good to hear you have managed to get some pallets for your shed Gg, sounds like a good haul.

Weeding seems an endless task. Part of my plot remained undug untill a few weeks ago. I realised I was just keeping the weeds down with the strimmer and not reallly making any progress, as time was primarily taken keeping the growing area's free from weeds.

Planting has paid dividends though and there is now lots of stuff covering ground on the cultivated part to slow down/stop the weeds. Something has even been leaving holes in the leaves of bindweedimage

I've started to rough dig the top of the plot, taking out the periennial roots, covering with cardboard, muck and then plastic. I get cardboard from a local corner shop, the muck isn't that well rotted but is delivered by the tonne just outside my gate and by next yr should have been taken in by the worms and rotted down.

On a bonus, went to the plot yesterday to find a tonne of chopped bark had been delivered to the site. There was no sign saying don't take and as I hadn't received an e-mail about it, recovered the bark paths I have. There was a trail of chippings going down the track so I presumed other plot holders were taking it and the council do make random delivery's, one just after Christmas...
