We live in West Sussex and were shocked to hear that some Allotments are 50 pounds a year. Ours are half the price.

Hello not too far away I live in Southampton, Hampshire.

Half price allotments that sound good.

Q - Do they measure out how many square metres on a plot for the amount of rent you pay?

As one thing I was reading says an allotment is normally 10 rods = 25 square metres a rod about the size of a tennis court - 250 square rods

Someone up the allotment mentioned while I was looking around being nosy - about that being one plot and it did not look that big more like a half a plot but was meant to be a whole plot - would want the plots to be measured out to pay the right rent

So many nice veg and flowers on some plots and lots of chickens - one plot was nearly all chickens

Hi Angel, I haven't got an allotment, but I just assumed they were quite expensive. Didn't have a clue of price but thought it would be more than £5o lol......the ones near us never come up anyway. They are always well tendered.

Yes Gardengirl they are measured maybe ours down here are smaller plots. Star gaze Lily we have 35 people on the list waiting for a plot. One fella waited 5 years for his.

That's good Angle that the plots get measured, maybe they are smaller, did look and see a sign that said12 on one plot and 12A for one so maybe at one point they got halved then the plot would of been much bigger

Do you have a gh on your plot, shed or somewhere to shelter if it gets really wet?

We have a shed Gardengirl that we can dive in if it rains. We keep an eye on the weather forecast so we don't get caught in the rain to often. I hate going into the shed anyway cos I hate the big black spiders I freak out if I see one. I' really ashamed as the size of me to them it' really stupid of me. The problem is I don't see them as smaller than me I see them as giants oh dear what a wally I am. I have got better with insects tho since I've had my Allotment I used to scream at every creepy crawly.

Hello , I pay £50 pa for my allotment which is 30ft by 130ft which goes to the Farmer/land owner and £3 to the allotment association to be a member of national allotment. Ass

we have water on site and we pay £3 to fill a water cube which holds a 1000 litres

you have to provide your own shed and water cube but what can get for £1 a week !

I think it is good valueimage
