I bought a pear tree and 2 cherry trees-one for the birds and hopefully the other one for us! Planted them in the current/gooseberry bed which has been massively cleared. The bushes didn't fruit too well last yr no idea how old they are plan is to take them out if they do not perform. We have no restrictions on growing fruit trees the paths are wide and doesn't appear to be a problem. Last yr I planted apple and 2 plums so like you Fruitcake I hope to get some fruit!
Next big job I need to do is to edge the beds with all the timber I have collected from the builders amazing what you can get if you have the guts to ask/or look in the skips!!
FC lovely hse for you chickens sure they're going to be happy in their des res.
Cape gooseberries my plot friend gave me 2 plants last yr really easy to grow I had loads of berries-acquired taste.
Q-I'm planning on buying an electric saw any ideas?
Glad Rob won the challenge did like JoJo as well.
Got 6 pkts of seeds with my grow more mag and the nice thing is there is an article on how to grow them as well another lot coming next mth too. Have really enjoyed reading it-bored with GW mag will not be renewing my sub.
Zoomer44 your seed purchase sound good, enjoy your plot today nice and sunny here
Weyplotter great you got free wood always good to get free stuff, don't know any thing about electric saw as use hand saw, you got some nice purchases with your trees you get to enjoy the blossom
Been to both plots today, just for a little maintenance at one and to finish burying wire under the chicken run at the other one. While we were there we found what looks like a fox den a few plots up. looks like it's buried in a compost pile. The guy who's plot it is keeps rabbits in cages normally but there aren't any because of the winter. Grrrrr
Have I missed something, why would someone want to keep rabbits on an allotment... bee's and chickens...yes..., but rabbits!
Had a productive day on the allotment. Finished laying a path across the middle, edged with thick branches and mulched with wood chippings. Finished patching up the fence at the bottom of the plot with pallets.
Can't help either with an electric saw, I use a hand one. Can anyone recommend a hand powered lawn mower.
How nice to still be harvesting...GWR...Zoomer makes a note to plant out more winter veg this year.
Zoomer got one last year from car boot sale but not proved successful , for Christmas I had battery strimer , somebody else use one at the allottment and should be better than the mower
GWRS I thought about getting a strimer but the last time I was let loose with one to trim the edge of the lawn at home I cut it too severly, now I use an edger
Do strimers come with guards to lift up the cutting wire so it doesn't cut to severly?
Hi everyone.....what a beautiful day today! The OH has been constructing the new greenhouse, unfortunately there was an accident with a piece of glass, so have to replace that !!! I've been washing all my seed trays ready for sowing seeds, can't wait....note to self, must clean trays next time as soon as they're finished with!
Really enjoyed Allotment Challenge on Friday, weren't those cauliflowers whoppas! I didn't realise that the purple ones lost their colour when cooked I was thinking how fab they would look on a plate......I like a colourful meal
i see everybody has been busy these last few days, isn't it lovely to get outside again?
Fruitcake.....chicken run is looking good, bet you can't wait to buy your chucks. Im waiting til end of March to buy a couple more to replace the ones we lost. I think Bristol poultry sale is on round about then. Haven't been there before but saw it advertised this last week.

There was fresh poo outside the den so I'm not sure that it is obsolete
The rabbit guy is french and apparently they are "pot" rabbits. There is an email address on his hutches so I'll drop him an email tomorrow.
