  • GWRS great bargain buy, I have a bin in garden thinking I will take it to the allotment plot,   runner beans my favourite image

With the bonfires we can have them anytime it was just there is normally only 1 or 2 but this time - why I said - I must of missed a memo (don't get emails) maybe I should have put a image     there were possible 5 having bonfires then someone else turned up and lit a bonfire - so seemed like every one decided to have them

Lots more cardboard collect and got pallets for the shed just need to figure them out as all a bit different sizes

Gardengirl , your pallet pile is certainly growing , do you need many more before you start building ?

On way home called into allottment , collected a lettuce and dropped off some wood that I am going to make 2 new gates , as 2 of the existing ones are rotten , something for winter

Also bought some garlic and onions for planting next month image

  • GWRS need about 16 pallets for the shed

This video is what I am going for with the shed but different roof and may have to be smaller down as only allowed to 6foot 6 inches  and will try and fill the gaps in the pallets with bits of pallet  will be having a door though

I've just been out and the temp is about 21c, so it looks promising for a nice warm day. Have done a bit of sorting out of various plants I've had in the GH over winter and thrown away those that had not developed. I've now got lots of used potting mix, but I'm sure I'll find a use for it. The tomato seedling that I potted on yesterday is looking very sprightly and I've got fingers crossed that it doesn't get knocked back. There is snow predicted on the ski fields again mid week.

Hubby is out preparing a new garden bed for my chitted potatoes. Last year's site was closer to next door's pine tree than I anticipated and the whole bed got invaded by pine roots.image   That pine tree is three times as big as the next tree.  The new site is on a bit of a slope (as is most of our place) so he had to get the tractor out of the shed to do some levelling. The new site is also full of shale and quartz, but I guess the potatoes will sort themselves out. The bed will be better next year.

Hello to everyone over there. Hope you also have good weather.image

  • That raised bed looks great what a good idea using the blocks on the corners of the bed

I have had my potato bed done in the last few weeks now has spuds in not sure if they will be ok as got them in January and the potatoes were growing on the seed potatoes inside the house  - as the bed was being used as a temp planting area for a few hedging plants until the area was sorted - took ages to do

GWRS are you going to do a seating area made out of pallets?

Yes garden girl, the blocks work well. It's much easier than trying to hold the sides together with stakes or pegs.  I'm not sure about the best time to plant potatoes, but they're ready to go now, so they'll be planted in the next day or two.   We need to make another bed below that one, but the site still has to be levelled  first - maybe tomorrow. I'm planning on putting pumkins in again this year, even though I wasn't going to do it again because of our short seasons, but I got some new seeds of a heritage pumpkin that I want to try out.  I'll be quicker harvesting and/or covering them this time.

I'm impressed with all the work you've done with the pallets. Do you need planning permission to build a shed like that?  Our local council is pretty tough on any building work.

  • Thanks,  Yes do need permission for shed and greenhouse on allotments sites - will just need to go get more pallets then measure them an figure out the size of the shed then fill a form in on computer with the height and width of all bits overall size and then wait to get the go ahead

I have the go ahead for my 6 foot by 5.5 foot greenhouse, that will get done when I get there to sorting out area and clearing ground  I got that free from someone not wanting it and measure it before taking it down to help get permission - so far that is in bits down bottom of garden with the pallets

Where your summers are at a different time to ours - do you get potatoes packs with a date when to plant like ours is in March time?
