You've been busy BB. Our allotments look to be about the same size.
Never grown spuds bought from the supermarket Roy although some growers do but it's not recommeded. The seed spuds I've bought work out at 7p each, is it really worth taking the chance with supermarket spuds when they can be bought so cheaply. At least with seed spuds you know if they have some resistance to things like blight and scab.
I've grown garlic from bulbs bought in France from a market stall, that's not recommended either but they grew to the same size as garlic bought here and now I just replant the biggest cloves from the previous years harvest.
If anyone is looking to buy a plastic GH, 'Green Fingers' have them in their sale.
Zoomer- Not the price, just nice potatoes would bye them as seed if I could find them. Edd - Seems you know your potatoes any place to buy them as seed.I'm growing mine in bags this year so I might give it a try with a couple
Gina, I'm so sorry to hear your sad news, big hugs for you....I like the idea of planting a tree...a lovely thought.
ive ordered my seeds from Kings this year and they arrived last Thursday...itching to get going now! We went to a Potato Fair today so bought a variety of seed potatoes in smaller quantities, it does work out a bit more expensive that way but we were keen to try several kinds to see which ones we preferred. As we've got a lot of restructuring to do and paths to make, I thought we would grow the first and second earlies in containers this year, this would give us more time to get the work done.
We had plans to start digging out for the greenhouse base on Saturday but woke to snow which later turned to rain so it was too wet to do anything....so disappointed
Its back to work tomorrow, weekends seem to go so quickly don't they?
just a question to throw out there, I've been reading about home made 'hot beds'.....has anyone ever made/ used one?
Does any one have a poly tunnel? If so how easy are they to anchor down? (My plastic walk in grow house is too far gone after the last storm to re erect!)
Roy, I'll be putting up the growhouse in February too.
Trying to find a good spot in the garden, sheltered and sunny! As the side fencing will need replacing it will have to be east facing but will be snug against a sheltered corner by the house - sigh, and probably move it in late spring to the other side of the garden.
It is frustrating Woo2, especially when you're working. I'm itching to dig away at some paths between the beds but it's so very messy and wet. Could be worse I suppose, watching bbc iplayer where a couple were landscaping a garden in the torrential rains of last year as they had a deadline to complete. Patience...

Hi Woo, thanks, you are all so kind.
Re hotbeds, Harry Dodson made one in the Victorian Garden series (you could youtube it) You will need a lot of farm yard muck!!
Thanks Gina, will look it up
