My girls did struggle with the heat last week, it didn't help that one went broody and spent 3 days and nights in broody jail I did everything I could to keep them cool - extra water, ice cubes in the water, grapes frozen in water and even fanning them with a newspaper lol. I even gave them a litter tray filled with water for them to stand in and cool themselves off
They had lots of green treats as well, but they get those anyway. Thankfully it's cooled down loads the last few days so they're a lot happier
GWRS I have brassicas covered with the exact same thing. My advice is to use debris netting because anything else lets the insects through I'll take a pic when I go round shortly and try and remember to post it. The cabbages look fab
I'm still working my way through the 28lb of spuds I pulled a couple of weeks ago! I have two beds of maincrop potatoes so won't be needing any for a good long while
Peas are coming in thick and fast and there will be brocolli on my dinner plate this weekend Think the strawberries are probably done now.
Hello everybody , no doubt like me busy trying to keep up with everything , hot sunny weather and rain can't be better growing weather , still need to do lots of watering
finally getting things ship shape , soft fruit coming thick and fast as are courgettes
only 1 of the squashes have taken and pumpkins look like no hopers , also peas not done very well this year ? Don't why
just about to go in garden back up allottment on Sunday
I'm pleased, stuff is really growing well. Went to the plot on Saturday.
Pea's/beans were slow to start growing due to pea/bean weevil but they are now ropping away up their supports with pods on the pea's,
I've planted out celeriac, bulb fennel and more pea's, toms and cues in the GH. Leeks have been planted in their final spot and some more to move when they are pencil thickness.
Swede has been attacked by flea beetle but the roots have developed and picked the first one's on Saturday along with lettuce, spuds, spinach, chard, rubarb, garlic, strawberries, chives, parsley and sweet pea.
Onions, not quite big enough to start harvesting. Garlic bulbs disappointingly small but given to understand smaller bulbs have more flavour.
I've had various degree's of success and failings with courgettes, squash, pumkin and gourds, the labels have blown away on some of them so not sure what I have which is growing well, me thinks courgettes and one gourd plant. squash and pumkin struggling to to put on growth.
We have harvested the onions we planted last winter , drying in storage shed and garlic drying in cold frame
my pumpkins are not growing and only 1 squash is doing any good , courgettes are producing lots , also planted a round one , in fact had a courgette bake for dinner
leeks looking good have 2 beds of these one only planted a couple of weeks ago
pak choi needs thinning out , carrots have suddenly started to grow , however , you never know what they are like until you dig them up
forcast not good for tommrow might get up there in afternoon
