    It's rained all day here.

Been going through preserving/baking books for different recipe's. Was thinking of making strawberry jam and possibly red currant jam. I don't really eat alot of jam and still have apple/plum jam left from last year but hate waste and don't know what else to do will the glut. I've frozen alot of strawberries for smoothie's later in the year.

Silly Q but when freezing pies/crumbles, does the pastry need to be cooked?

Aldi are selling veg/flower seeds at 19p per packet, bought 5 packets.

Zoomer for a pie, I cook the pastry first cos otherwise it becomes a soggy mess. With crumbles, I just put it all together then freeze it without cooking it first

Thank you fruitcake, I've already made some rubarb crumbles and froze without cooking but held off with pies.

Another silly Q, when you've defrosted a home baked cooked pie how long do you reheat in oven forimage and how  long do crumbles and cooked pies last in the freezerimage.

Been down to the plot today, picking/harvesting and weeding. It rained in the morning but was nice and sunny in the afternoon. It's famine or feast here in the NW as our resoviours are open air and we are usually one of the first to go on a hose pipe ban if Britian has a heat wave but there has been lots of rain in the past couple of months, most during the night, with warm sunny daysimage

GWRS Sounds good exhibiting your produce. How does one get started, I've thought about it and there is a village fair on every year locally were growers exhibit their fruit and veg in the community hall, which is where I'd like to start ... something for next year maybeimage.

Gartstang Show is also local and quite a big event in the NW, they're celebrating 200 yrs this year, it a farmers fair primarily but your posting has inspired me to go this year...after all...it is only 10mins driveimage.

Went to the plot to water GH this evening, picked some lettuce and swede.

Bindweed and horsetail I find are both horrible. Brambles have come up from roots dug out but I've found these easy to pull up/dig out the second time around.

I don't defrost home cooked pies image I cook them at Gas4 for about 40-45 mins but I check them after about 30m. I cook them in the middle of the oven. I'm happy to keep them frozen for a good 6 months as long as they're well wrapped image

Zoomer44 I entered a show last year as it was for allotment and garden - the form was from the allotment shop where I have a plot now, about this time got a form for this year now but not sure if I will entre this one

Go get a form booklet, now ish which will go through all the entries and rules, each category you entre is normally 20p each entry and 1 entry for each category

Entering was a rush in the morning as have to get flowers/veg in the hall between 8am - 10 am and finding out results at same time as public enter the show from 2pm  but was exciting and scary

You lot all good never had enough produce to make jam (don't know how to) or pies or anything

GWRS I am going to have bark chipping on my paths eventually

Been to the allotment plot today got some weeding done and more soil shiftling done and back into the big hole with out the rubbish bits

Zoomer goes off to put a note on side of micro wave reminding her not to defrost cooked pies and to check what gas4 is for fan ovens image

Looking forward to reading how you guy's get on, GWRS and Gardengirl, good luck image and will try to get a booklet to find out what the rules are for the village show.

Opted to make red currant jelly, it took forever to reach setting point and I've a strawberry conserve in the making. image

Gg I only started making jam last yr and always wanted to bake because of plesant memories of my mother baking when I was a child. She made apple pie to die for and her currant slices were out of this world.

I don't have a huge freezer so preserving/drying and storing stuff seems to be the best way to go. We all start somewhere and I started with a couple of good books. Gg, you will be suprised at how much you grow this year, which you can't eat all at once...image

Not been down to the plot today but will need to go tomorrow to water the GH.
