Oh what a dreary gardening day today, just wet and windy. I had two visitors , PA officials for Mr. Fothergills visiting and it would be hard to imagine worse conditions. but the conservatory trials impressed and the soup made mainly with produce from the trials for lunch did too. And my golden mushrooms that magically appeared for the first time in my front garden. Better weather tomorrow so I will try to get back on track as I have a church group visiting on May 28th,
No rain as yet but very windy - quite taking my breath away out in the garden but I potted on ten aromatic begonias which have started to grow and sowed the first of my dwarf beans -called "Polka" with golden yellow pods and beans. The tomatoes, peppers, cucamelons and spring sown sweet peas have all been attended to in the conservatory where most things need watering every day now. My hawthorn is i
I braved the wind and planted three new shrubs in my Golden Jubilee year border - a choisya, hebe and hypericum "Orange" keeping to the gold theme. That meant I had three large empty pots just right for tomato plants that are to grow outside, It is a nonstop production line at the moment!
Another wet, blustery day in Bristol so will have to stick to planting big seeds like kidney potatoes and more dwarf beans. I shall have to take a tour round the garden with stakes and string just in case some of the lush growth is finding the wind too much. The Dutch iris are standing up to the battering fine and making a great golden splash in the front garden.
Managed a few pics of some of my treasures before the rain started again. The pink flower of my new dwarf rhododendron is lovely. Pleased with Centaurea montana "Jonty" and
Californian poppies I scattered and the Dutch Iris are still holding their heads high.
Much too blustery and wet to do anything outside so went to the flower shop for some seed compost and will sow four kinds of seed in my electric propagator - plenty to choose from as my friend has just sent me his surplus "freebies".
Unbelievable the strength of the wind in Bristol today and it is still howling down the chimney. If it and the rain relents tomorrow i expect I will have to spend a good few hours tomorrow picking up debris.
Forty minutes up my garden in the very strong wind and still raining was quite enough of picking up debris for me. That Jet Stream has a lot to answer for this year. I thought it was finished its meanderings for this year but no. I should be deadheading bluebells and pulling up hundreds of forget me nots before they seed everywhere but instead I am gathering up armfuls of twigs and branches snapped off by the fierce winds, but there are buds on the hemerocallis, more late tulips opening, and potatoes reaching for the skies. Rant over. A cup of coffee will help get me back out there. I reckon there is twelve more hours of tidying to do. A piecs of scaffolding has blown down from the house opposite which is awaiting repairs to the chimney so I will not venture out if the wind is as foerce as yesterday.

And in the conservatory the mimosa I bought to celebrate the garden's Golden Jubilee has beautiful new leaves.
