,"Oh you do get excited over small things", my neighbour's laughing reaction to my reaction to her offer of her empty green wheeliebin to help with my pruning marathon. It is now nearly full of buddleia and if it does not rain tomorrow will then be as stuffed as mine is.

I felt mean leaving my new amaryllis out in the conservatory which will be colder tonight so brought it into the lounge to keep me company.  If I

talk to it I am sure it will appreciate the extra carbon dioxide.

  • I was thinking of you earlier Marion when I remebered the big christmas light switch on over your way. I wondet just how "green" they'll be...! their electricity bill must be horrendous!

Do you always cut your buddlea down now Marion?

I used to just cut my buddleia down in October and then again in February but this year the October cut has grown out so quickly i have had to give the trees another haircut,Lyn.  Fruitcake, I believe the electricity used is all from renewable sources.and they do make a lot of money for the Children's Hospital.  I have just heard the fireworks from the opening ceremony.  It is in the street next to mine.

Feels cold this morning in Bristol but it is dry so lots of warm clothes to go out in the garden this morning. Nothing like having space in a green wheelie bin to encourage you out.   I have deadheaded the conservatory where the lovely flowers of my Red Jasmine are about to open.  It has put  on a great spurt in growth this year so the weather outside this summer has been to its liking.  As it flowers on the end of its branches the more branches it sprouts the more heads  of flowers you get. Such a value for money plant it is too, flowering all summer outside and throughout the winter indoors.

Aah it is a cold wind out in the garden today but the conifers are coming into their own now the leaves are falling off the deciduous trees.  My neighbour's oak tree is clinging on to its leaves

Gosh that is an icy wind out there.  Gave up in the end but wheeliebins groaning at the seams - well they would be if they had any.  Picked a basketful of apples so might make three lots of crumble with different spices in and freeze two of them.  I will take a carton of strawberries out to put in a strawberry jelly and that will be all my desserts sorted for a week.

Just been told the next thing we have to trial for Mr. Fothergills Nation of Gardeners project is a gardening gilet with lots of pockets for secateurs , string etc.  We all have to send in our size.  What next I wonder - garden benches, sheds perhaps?

It is brilliant sunshine today in Bristol but bitterly cold outside so i think i will stay in the warm.  I am going out in the evening to see the landgirl play "Lilies of the Land" so hope it is not too cold then.  Forecast is for warmer weather at the weekend.
