Hi everyone, it's been sun shining all day in the northwest So been to the garden centre today and got two big chrysanthemums one pink and one lemon, people commented on them on my way out the shop, real eye catchers , it's forecast rain tomorrow (bank holiday) but I've booked the rest of the week off anyway so hopefully get some dry weather to do some trimming and weeding, just been looking at my tomatoes there must be at least ten and my curly Kales are getting big too (plenty of iron this winter)
The rain will certainly boost the growth flumpy1. I spent the morning pottering around before the rain comes. I was suprised to see these blackberries growing too high for me to reach. It seems to have grown from behind the holly bush and up and over the laurel shrub. A treat for the birds
It was a lovely program Bizzie B. The best blackberries are usually out of reach. Glad your tomatoes are doing well, Flumpy1. I have almost finished weeding the new border so here is a pic of part of it.
Heavy rain forecast for Bristol till 10 o'clock tonight! A day for doing things with my piles of fruit and vegetables. another big pot of soup for the freezer, more plums too and i have just taken some steak out to make a great batch of Bolognese sauce to use up tomatoes, onions and garlic. Now to riffle through all my kitchen cupboards to find enough containers to house it all. The kitchen will be lovely and warm with all the cooking.
Awww, TY Verdun. Good to hear from you. My kitchen is smelling great now the Bolognese sauce is on its way. It took me half an hour preparing a huge bowl of tomatoes and can now report Sungold are better just eaten as they are fiddly to prepare; Black Opal are a doddle they are so soft skinned; Pink Charmer, Sakura and Ferline are easy too but I could not bring myself to use the beautiful Orange Slice as they are ideal for slicing for sandwiches and their beauty would be lost in a sauce.
Re gardening gloves, a good idea. I have used my old woollen gloves inside domestic rubber ones for moving wet things around and cut part of the fingers off them for fiddley tying up things in the cold, now my gardening wardrobe is complete
Bizzie b, your right about the rain boosting the growth my evergreen looks like it's grown five inches. I think my friend needs iron gloves as she is always snipping the tops of her fingers, it makes me cringe thinking of it , Marion your plums and pairs look scrumptious mmmmm, and what is the pink flower called?
