That is more like it. Bright but hazy sun and no puddle at the back door. It should be a lovely day's gardening today. The birds are singing loudly and a tiny cistus is flowering. I will take out the camera later.
Good morning Marion, it's been raining cats and dogs through the night here , I'm hoping the weather cheers up today, because my hubby is helping my dad pull fence panels out so he can paint them, but it's looking grey outside at the moment, hope you have a lovely day today Marion, looking forward to your pictures
Awww flumpy1, I do hope the weather lets you get your dad's fence panels painted. I dispaired of the weather yesterday but more cheerful now - back to happymarion despite the bearded irises and giant purple alliums blown flat by the wind and lashing rain yesterday! The veg garden has loved it so I took some pictures of my trials. The slugs have eaten my trial poppies before they could flower - grrrr. Millions of snails crawling up the bungalow walls. they must be making for the gutters. are they telling me something? Camera battery on charge but pics as soon as the light goes green.
Some pics of the flowers ans veg. encouraged by yesterday's rain in my garden. Lots of pink and blue hardy geraniums opening their buds fir my open day on wednesday and of course the roses are all budding well.
The FB friend who sent me my yellow "Honka" dahlia in the above pictures has just told me this one is the parent of all the other Honka dahlias - there are now white and red ones and bicolours. How exciting is that for my Golden Jubilee Year!
Hi Marion your pictures are lovely, my favourite one is the orange flower, well it rained heavy all day in the north, so dad's fence panels will have to wait , I bet you have been busy Marion ?
Yes I was and pleased it did not rain and I got a lot of things accomplished. That is a pretty marigold. I grew them from seed to go with verbena rigida I overwintered. I relaxed with the TV tonight - The Duchess of Malfi on BBC$ was from the Globe Theatre was excellent entertainment for one who loves poetry.
Another lovely morning but must get busy as the forecast for the afternoon is heavy rain . The rosebuds are opening. more colour from the hardy geraniums and everything in the veg garden is very lush. Weatherwise the garden has been very lucky. Deadheading is the order of the day now and the Chelsea chop after the visitors on Wednesday. Always looking ahead as I have visitors booked for June, July and August and Gardening for Bristol end of July, beginning of August. My new border is looking promising with buds on the newly planted trollius, peonies, hydrangeas, ajuga, and some of the taller perennials . All my little trees and shrubs are growing. I am especially pleased with the Sorbus bristoliensis and my amelanchier.
Spent the whole morning filling up the eighth and last of my potager raised beds (built in 2012). I used the spent compost from my many large pots of spring bulbs and well rotted horse manure. It will have runner bean wigwams at the centre and I have already planted kidney beans round the edges. The weather stayed fine and not too warm. Clouding over now but that was forecast and I need a sit-down.
My word you've been very busy Marion, the weather has been lovely here, we went to the garden centre and I bought some yellow and some golden marigolds, seeding soil I couldn't wait to get in the garden, a big bumble bee was very happy with me when I had planted my flowers, I've got more flowers to plant next week, let's hope the weather is nice then
