Ahh you are branching out into chickens. Beware of the foxes in our district. We used to have 55 fowl - chickens and ducks but foxes killed the lot. They will excavate under fences in broad daylight if no one is around! They roam freely between the Downs and out via Blaise Castle to the Mall at Cribbs Causeway whee they pick up McDonalds cartons and bring them back to my garden. So an armour plated henhouse will be needed and never forget to lock them up at night.
thanks Marion we've got another plot now up by Clifton rugby club, much closer to home than the other one, so the girls will be going there, where we can keep a closer eye on them. Strangely, we get loads of foxes out the front of my house but I've never seen or heard them out the back. When you think that's very dense growth from shut down allotments, I'd have thought we would see loads.
The only mcdonalds wrappers in my garden are the ones the lazy so and so's are too bone idle to put in the bin ????
Damp out in the garden so at least we have had some drizzle through the night. No frost forecast till the night following Xmas day so coldframe etc will not need any attention except for a little watering. The forecast temperature for today and tonight in Bristol is 10degrees. There are still golden highlights out in my Golden Jubilee Garden and some I would not expect to see this time of year like golden gazanias. Jasminum nudifolium I knew I could bank on and it is very floriferous this year.
It is amazing how many presents I can wrap in an hour. Now to tackle the Xmas cards for the neighbours and get them delivered. The sheet of foolscap with the list to do before Thursday on it has lots of scores through the lines now. A walk up the garden with my camera may be on the cards when I weary but not yet while it is full steam ahead.
Lovely cakes Marion, I have finished mine now, marzipan and icing. I have now taken a piece of paper and pen to bed so I can jot things down when I wake up, must write note to finish mulching dahlias in case of frost, our weather is much like yours I think Marion, what we call 'hanging) just damp, mild and mucky.
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.
Lying in bed listening to the radio when a great thump on the door reminded me that couriers start very early delivering and a very dishevilled Marion had to scurry to sign for my JustIngredients parcel! Now to find containers to store it all. Weather"hanging" again as Lyn describes it. May finish my Xmas chores today which will give me all Tuesday to clean the house and do a bit of decorating. Visitors start arriving with gifts on Xmas Eve usually and I am out Xmas Day. Some f my dahlias are going to stay safely in their big pots in the garage for the winter. The wind is getting a bit fierce out there by the sound coming down the chimney.
Oh my house smells lovely. My two parcels from JustIngredients have arrived and I have been putting the contents into the glass jars and tins I had got ready to put them into. Of course I had to try some so have had some fruit muesli for my lunch and it was delicious and a cup of peppermint tea (from Poland) which was so refreshing. Mint grows so easily in this country I thought it would have been sourced from here, but whatever it is excellent. This afternoon I will be using some of my red lentils to thicken chicken soup i am making. Use by date on my huge bag of Italian spices i chose to use on my pizzas and pasta sauces is Dec. 2018 so i am so glad I found some good containers at the back of my hall cupboard. My mother used to say "Keep a thing for seven years and you will find a use for it" which seems to have come true this week.
