Lovely asters, flumpy1. Looks like a much drier day for us in Bristol today so may be able to get some harvesting done as the plums were snapped up last night at the committee meeting. I expect quite a few will be on the ground. Lots of tomatoes needing picked too. My late sowing of annuals for Mr fothergills trials are beginning to make a good show so the way to get nice fresh flower display late in the summer and into the autumn seems to be late July sowing.
Flumpy1, your japenese anemone is lovely and against the blue sky stunning, a good photo shot healthy tomatoes growing well. Is that last photo a dahlia? ( try cropping a bit off the photos before you upload them it may help )
I picked a big bowlful of tomatoes, an even bigger bowlful of plums and took them to a neighbour, 6oz of "Moonlight" runner beans and covered the tops of my Xmas new potatoes with compost and then it rained again. Drying up again now so will go out for blackberries to make more squash when the bushes have dried a little or put on my old raincoat and wellies. Must make a bit pot of veg. soup for the freezer too.
I have just made my onions, tomatoes, potatoes , peppers , beans and garlic plus lots of herbs from the garden into my biggest saucepan full of vegetable soup. It tastes delicious and will taste even better in the winter fom the freezer as i find freezing intensifies the flavours. Now to tackle the big bowl of plums I picked for myself. It has been showery and dull today and i have not had a big cooking and freezing session for ages so have thoroughly enjoyed it.
Marion sounds like you've got enough soup for us all , is it tea at yours tomorrow then ?, it's been heavy showers again today, I hope it stops soon, the garden is getting a bit too soggy, Bizzie that flower that looks like a Dahlia is a Aster, I bought them in trays, they are grown by the local scouts
oops! they are not the same as my asters (not in flower yet)
I will be learning more on Sunday when visiting The Picton Gardens, Collwall, Malvern - hold the national collection of asters, and tge njrsery is ooen then too. So I could be buying a few like yours
Picton Gads are famous for their Michaelmas daisies as are Waterperry gdns. Flumpy has grown annual asters, Bizzie B which give a lovely show in the summer.

My youngest son arrived with carnatios and wine for my birthday. The carnations smell wondeful and the wines are my favourites.
Aha, thank you Marion
Beautiful birthday carnations (and wine)
