Cutting into the turkey was like cutting butter - it was so tender. The sprouts, carrots sweet potato and roast potatoes were beautifully cooked, the stuffing had lots of chestnuts in and a huge Yorkshire pudding, a nice sausage, cranberry sauce and good gravy. I did not have a starter but they looked very good with six pieces of toast. I can recommend the apple crumble pie with caramel and custard which i chose as a way to sample a new recipe to use up some of my apples, but the Xmas pudding really tasted of brandy and it was a large portion. The young male waiters are such fun and very attentive to elderly ladies, Enjoy, Fruitcake. i do hope the wind is not too horrible.
Wild wet and windy outside and forecast to get worse as the day goes on so shall limit my gardening to the winter garden today. May get the camera into the conservatory later.
Very wet out in the garden but no wind and dry now so hope to get out up the garden to check for any damage from the heavy rain and strong winds last night later. I did hear some wheeliebins flying around last night out on our road and was glad I resisted the temptation to put mine out. There could be a lot of rubbish strewn round the streets. Frost is forecast for tonight for all of the mainland so my dahlias might be black tomorrow morning. It is time I took them in out of the rain anyway.
Oh my goodness, a large parcel arrived from Mr. Fothergill's Seeds and I eagerly opened it thinking it was the gilet we have been asked to trial as participants in the Nation of Gardeners Project but it was a Xmas present. i am going to have such a beautiful garden next year. Here they all are.
I thought today could not get any better after my parcel from Mr. Fothergill arrived but changed my mind when the post came. In it was a Xmas card from the youngest member of the Nation of Gardeners and a lovely plaque for my garden. See pic.
He also paid me a great compliment as he said he saw it when he was out shopping and thought of me! And Marion is such a common name.
Off to bed now with my book - my favourite book of the twentieth century which I am rereading all six volumes of now the weather keeps me indoors more - Marcel Proust's "In Search of Lost Time".
Still in negative degrees in Bristol this morning so white roofs and grass again but the sun is out and a crisp dry day to look forward to I still have not recovered from the euphoria of such a lovely day yesterday so will be looking at everything through rose- tinted glasses today no doubt.

The sun is shining brightly, all deadheading and watering done in the conservatory. As promised some pics from my "Winter Garden"

Coming to the end of a perfect day. The Choir of the year 2014 program on BBC4 tonight was just absolutely splendid.
