There are five petals on my mystery plant so looks like a verbena.  Anyone know?  I will post photos of ot as the flowers open up.  Looks a beauty and same purple as my tibouchina.

Oh you angel, Edd.  Spot on.  My plant is about three feet and very vigorous.  I wonder if i will get the berries.  That would be a treat to have the yellow berries and the purple flowers at the same time.  I am so glad I keep plants that come as selfseeds in pots from nurseries to see what they are.  i have several waiting to be identified as soon as they flower.  Looking forward to being able to smell it soon as it is fragrant but not to people with flu symptoms!

White roofs and white grass in Bristol this morning.  -2 degrees last night.  Colder even forecast for tomorrow but milder by Friday!  I nearly crawled back into bed when i saw it but had to check the greenhouse heater in the conservatory was working.  It switches itself on at four degrees.  Luckily it had.  I have an old duvet ready in the kitchen to throw over salads etc which i want to go on growing. and some bubble wrap that gets thrown over the cold frame glass lid.  I think the east of the country is better off today but we are promised a dry sunny day later.

I had my first safari up the garden in a week in the brilliant sunshine and I bet i could be heard purring at the end of our road.  it was so beautiful and so golden due to the many cobnut trees i have.  so appropriate for a Golden Jubilee garden.  My new hebe I thought was white is blue; my new black elder has lovely autumn colour; my Mr. Fothergills trials are fine.  all is right with the garden world at least.  come on safari with me and enjoy what November has to offer.

Good evening Marion, got up 6.30am and my car windows where covered in ice, it's been dry but very cold today, I've covered my car windows tonight, it's not catching me out this time image Roll on spring I say!, Marion I see your plants are still surviving, my chrithanthanums are still flowering at the moment but that's it in my garden image

Even whiter and colder this morning but fog does not seem to have bothered this part of Bristol at least.  I took the duvet off the saladings and they seem untouched by the frost.  I will open up the cold frame later as no doubt the lid is frosted fast shut.  This is forecast to be the trough of coldness for this week and warmer from tomorrow onwards till Friday is quite mild.  I picked some beautiful big red apples yesterday and there are lots more but they can wait a bit as I do not want to jeopardise my recovery from the flu.  I see our flowershop still has lovely chrysanths in pots Flumpy1 so may treat myself to one for the kitchen since I saved a few pounds on food when I could not eat!  A pot plant lasts so much longer than cut flowers from the shop.

It is raining heavily in Bristol now and the rain is so cold it feels like sleet.  Before it started I took this picture of the cobnut tree outside the conservatory where the youg squirrels amuse me with their play .  It is so bright this year it is almost eclipsing the colours of my conservatory plants.

I have just watched the episode of "Glorious Gardens from Above" from the Scottish Borders which I missed because of the 'flu and I swear I have never been so enthralled in all my long life.  This is a program not to be missed - not by gardeners, poets, artists, ecologists, historians, lovers of all things romantic and scientific, in short everyone.
