     Thank you flumpy1. image

Yes it it a Dahlia the first of three  plants to flower. Not sure of the name as I was given the tubers as a present. Must look it up. Very pleased as not grown dahlias before?

The daisy-like flowers are Leucanthemum vulgare, they grow tall and tend to flop over so I have supported them this year.

Are not white flowers refreshing to look at in a heatwave?  And they stand out at night too.  I am in the wars.  i had to get up at 6 to start clearing ivy from the side of the house which is close to my neighbour's hedge.  It will take me a week and then I will have to paint the window frames, all three of them.  It has to be done as it has dislodged big hunks of concrete which have fallen on my conservatory roof, smashing a huge roof panel of double glazed glass.  If my buildings insurance does not cover it I will have to try a get an emergency loan which i believe is available for roofs and such when you are on guaranteed pension like me.  The glass was shatterproof so is not all over the conservatory, thank goodness.  I will have to get everything out though, difficult when some of my tomato plants are hitting the roof.

Marion, what a calamity! Such a shock.

I hope you can get help with the heavy concrete and moving stuff about. So lucky that the glass didn't shatter.

Thank you,Bizzie B.  I worked hard but know I cannot get ready for the insurance assessor on my own so will be phoning round Bristol this morning for help to get the plants out of the conservatory.  My lovely neighbour brought me a 2l pot of TIger Eye Rudbeckia (to cheer me up) which are now in the front garden display.  I will get through this but iIwill have to cancel my Aug. 31st open day as the scaffolding will be in the way.

Here is the damage on my conservatory roof.  The gaping hole where the concrete fell out from under the tiles looks like it could get bigger as soon as the weather deteriorates.
