It is one of those awkward gardening days today. As soon as it looks dry enough to get started I get about ten minutes in and it goes cold and then rains on me. I have given it up and just watered everything that needs it in the conservatory. It does not seem that my Dutch Iris "Royal Yellow" will open for St. Georges day tomorrow so I will have to be content with a red and white display. Allium neapolitanum is flowering and the white and green viridiflora tulips are still intact. We do not have any frost likely this week so the pelargoniums I put out for Easter are quite safe.
I do so enjoy a 'walk' through your garden Marion, the bluebell walk is lovely, thank you for sharing.
Several jobs done in between visitors visiting, one of which you may be able to advise on: to lift tulips to dry or leave in place. My T.proestons (van tubergens) in pot have finished. Now a school of thought suggests lift and dry out, another to take off flower head to save plant energy in making seed and plant out as they are in the ground much deeper (say 10 inches). Other border plants could go on top. What do you think. I ask because not sure if they will come true potted next year.
Hi, Bizzie B, your second way to treat tulips works for me. T. praestans will multiply for you if you plant it deeply in a border. Happy St. Georges Day everybody from my front gard
en whose red and white display was sabotaged by a pink pelargonium and late daffs . Well they are golden!
After a hard two hours work this morning cutting out brambles from a hedge I took a stro;; round my garden to see what is going to delight on May Day. My goodness what a lot of blossom to come - lilac starting, laburnum getting there, apple and pear will be in full flower soon, mock orange just covered in buds, weigela starting as is Potentilla fruticosa, aquilegia aplenty. buds opening on the peonies, Dutch iris sure to be open at last as the buds have swollen, late tulips , bluebells and forget me nots and double daisies, campanulas, poached egg plants . No doubt there will be lots more as I have never seen the borders so lush. I hope it will be good weather for photographs. Here is the painting I did on Mayday 1991 up my garden.
Your painting is as natural as your garden Marion. You've captured the Spring blossom beautifully. Will you have time to paint one this year?
Only just getting out today to fluff up the soil after the heavy rain yesterday. Also planning to re site a small lavender shrub to a drier area by the back fenced border. So making notes again, otherwise I will flutter about the garden doing this, that and the other!
Must tie up the new sweet peas and check the clematis and....the shed still needs sorting. Thank goodness the evening is warm and bright.
I doubt I will be painting much this Mayday or this year really as the garden is having so many visitors. I think next year I will do a collage of individual paintings of the plants on the roll of honour when they are looking their best. Small vignettes will not take so much time and I can have fun setting up the collage. Green wheelie bin gets emptied tomorrow and will soon be filled up again!

By the way the potagers look interesting.

Hi and thank you Marion, will do that. Work interrupted by heavy rain storm. Everywhere so fresh now.
Happy St. George's Day, the display is lovely. What a welcome!
Your bluebells are glorious Marion. Much too wet here for gardening today so did housework instead.
