Reinvigorated by my day off the hundred tomato plants are now stripped of their last fruits, spent plants composted, spent compost used as mulch on my new plantings in my Jubilee border, canes and pots cleaned and stored away and drive swept! need a quick wash now and a light lunch before getting some weeding done in the sunshine before visitors arrive. It is like the middle of summer in Bristol - very warm in the bright sunshine. So glad the bees are enjoying the nectar from your flowers, flumpy1. So essential to get lots done in the autumn in the garden to make it manageable in the spring. I have loads of butterflies flitting around today.
I have been on safari with my camera in the front garden where the summer and autumn flowers are blooming together with a sprinkling of spring primulas as well. I have never seen such big rosettes on my black aoniums. they have loved their summer hols out there.
Another week of good gardening weather promised. Hooray! Here are some selfsown "Jewel of Africa" from my friend's tiny garden to brighten up Monday morning.
and how lovely to share it with all of your friends, Marion.
Looked like the conference was a success. It is good to talk with like-minded people, as you say invigorating
Interesting that your garden is of 'three seasons', such colour! the neighbours nasturnums are certainly blooming well.
Visited Malvern Autum Show yesterday, never know what to look at first . Picton Gardens, which I visited last month, had stunning displays of asters - won silver gilt. Must visit again as their garden will have even more colour now the asters are at their best.
Bulb planting this week, ground very dry having to use water to soften it a little. Love the quiet satisfaction of the preparation for Spring whilst enjoying the colours of Autumn
Ooooh Bizzie-I was at Malvern Show on Saturday!! I love it, and will go again next year. Bought far too many bulbs and plants and seeds. Loved the flower displays and the vegetable show, I don't think that I have ever seen such perfect Carrots in my life!
Marion, your cake looks wonderful, so glad that you had a good time. I hope that you will keep your page going after your Jubilee year, as I love looking at your pictures and hearing about your plants.
I am hoping to make 2015 the year I help Bristol io be environmentally friendly as it becomes the Green capital of Europe. My garden will be full of wildlife friendly plants, recycled containers, energy saving devices, plants that have been got from cuttings or swops,fruit and veg. to save on food miles and lots more devices to save on postage and fuel that could have been used by buying on line or going to a garden centre. Different from 2014 which was all about celebration. I hope to visit the Bot. Garden this week with the remains of my cake for the staff and volunteers whom i worked with as a volunteer gardener for six years. The autumn colours should give me some good pictures.
Another brilliantly sunny morning in Bristol and warm once more. Cooler conditions forecast for Saturday so will start getting more tender plants in to the conservatory or at least pushed into more sheltered parts of the garden if they are too heavy for me to lift. Waterbutts are very depleted so I have not been watering pelargoniums and begonias which means the pots are a bit lighter. The front porch of the bungalow is pretty well sheltered from the cold and gets some heat from the house. Mr. Fothergills are putting the first results of the Nation of Gardeners trials out on the ether now and , as I thought when we started they are promising to be very useful.
Picked one and a quarter lbs of runner beans and took half to a neighbour who gave me a huge slice of watermelon in return. The sun shone all day so took my camera in the front garden.
The Japanese quinces like all the apples are huge this year.
Another brilliant sunny start to the day in Bristol. I shall be out in my garden all daylight hours enjoying the cyclamen all over it and the colours of the acers.

We Ate a Work of Art.
The grass was made of coconut;
The paths of marzipan;
The flowers and veg. of sugar;
Made by creative Ann.
The pond of sparkling jelly;
The beehive with its bees;
Blue butterflies in the borders;
All put us at our ease.
Till I had to wield the knife,
To cut my garden cake,
Too lovely to eat was the cry,
Even for donations sake.
That cry subsided when we smelt
The cherry brandy fumes'
And then we saw the cherries ,
Lush as the decorating blooms.
They queued for slices and decorations;
They ooh-ed and aah-ed somewhat;
The coffers swelled for our new projector;
Which eased my pain a lot.
It has gone, my Golden Cake;
Fond memories remain;
Of the facebook friends who gave it
And the gardening friends who ate it.
