Hello folks - I'm back from visiting Ma - bit of a tricky visit as she was anxious to leave The Lovely Home and get back to Pa who apparently is wondering where she is image  I reassured her that he knows she's at The Lovely Home, so she agreed to stay and have her lunch there as they'd catered for her ... I've a feeling the staff may be in for more of the same this afternoon image

    Hi all

Dove soz to hear that Ma is unsettled image hugs

I had a nice morning visiting the swans and then a rubbish afternoon, my climbing beans haven't been doing well, all 3 sorts. They were covered with black fly so I have had the joyous task of spending nearly an hour with the hose on mist (so I don't blast the flowers off) rubbing the underside of all the leaves with my left hand (too clumsy with gloves on ) image The ones above my head I assume are in my hair image Just got the devils from under my finger nails image Tonight will be a tke away curry NO beans image

Off in the shower !! I'm sure they are between my toes image

It's not really that she's unsettled - she loves The Lovely Home and the staff there - she just has memories of 'having to get back' from when Pa was living there and she was still at home - she used to visit him every day and then Pa would worry about her getting back home before dark and she's got confused memories of that.

Oh the dilemma, worried if I put out food at night we might end up with rats, ( being in the middle of the countryside)

I think they feed on the bird food which has fallen  onto the terrace, but I suppose rats might be attracted to that too.

We put out food for the hedgehogs and we don't get rats - well, so far anyway and we've been doing it for around four years now.   This is what what ours like http://www.petsathome.com/shop/en/pets/spikes-semi-moist-food-550gm .  It has to be the 'semi moist' - ours don't like the dried version.  You can get it via  Amazon

They also like sunflower hearts, chopped up peanuts and banana chips and dried mealworms.

Also every night they drink lots of water from a shallow dish that we fill with fresh rainwater from the water butts.  They have save access to the pond as there's a sloping gravel beach, but they seem to prefer the water in the dish.

I'll find a shallow dish and leave it on the terrace.

Someone told me that very finely chopped up cat food with chicken is liked by them too. Is that right?

We have a pond in this part of the garden with gently sloping gravelly / pebbly surface around the edge.

I've just planted out some potbound Bush cucumbers hope they don't take a liking to them .  Then again I really don't mind sharing our crops I've just angered my garden blackbirds cos I went to water apple tree and they were happily having afternoon tea in it and me thinking they are ground feeders . Well off to get tea have a good evening all image
