Hello all. Where has today gone? Haven't had time to come here since this morning. Well, nearly 3 hours of it was spent in DD's beautiful garden. She has worked really hard and the result is gorgeous. Such a change from last year when I first saw it. Her soil is acid and really fertile. She has blue hydrangeas and camellias and rhododendrons. Totally unlike my bit of Dordogne where the soil is shallow and limestone. The leaves on her roses are huge and she has enormous beautiful, brightly coloured lilies. we both (OH) had 2 cakes each, I had pineapple juice (hot day) and OH had 2 mugs of tea. Well, we'd skipped lunch.
I'm posting photos on the Garden Pictures thread.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
So glad to hear DD's day went well And so lovely that you are there to support each other. This forum is a wonderful thing. Off to check out the pics now ......
A lovely warm morning here too, with bright sunshine - Hemerocallis and echilnacea in the front border are budding up nicely, Roscoea purpurea is flowering and Clematis viticella Purpurea Plena Elegans and Venosa Violacea are full of buds and just beginning to open
The perfume from the honeysuckles as we walked around the garden in the moonlight last night was wonderful.
Verdun, you may be interested to know that a couple of years ago I planted a David Austin rose Mayflower - it is supposed to have a strong fragrance but last year I was a tad disappointed - this year the fragrance is very noticeable as you walk past - it seems to have improved as the plant has matured - hopefully the same will happen with the one you've planted for your mum.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Looks like today might be a decent day after more rain last night, but I have to go to work and earn a crust or three. Hoping older fairy might lend me a hand later to get the area for grass done and netted.
My Philadelphus are just starting to flower but I can't smell them - lack of warmth perhaps - or maybe it's just me? ....
Glad your cousin is making improvements Verd. I have a cousin in Canada who isn't well - Alzheimers. Sad.
Looked at the pix BL - glad DD's day went well.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Morning Folks Gentle start for me this morning. Work is very quiet this week.....but it is the calm before the storm.
My philadelphus are really pumping out the fragrance this year .....i have four, that came as cuttings from our last garden. They were my first ever cuttings, so have a special place in my heart. No idea what variety, but they are double and smell divine.
