I found New York to be dirty, noisy, crowded and ugly, but there were some highlights and it was an interesting experience. Central Park was lovely, very long, we walked, zig zagging, the length of it. There is a huge and amazing art gallery The Metropolitan Museum of Art, we spent hours there looking at European paintings from early Italian to Constable, Renoir, Rubens, Pissarro, Van Gogh - too many to name - superb!
I enjoyed the river cruise up the Hudson, dinner and dancing included, spectacular views. Photos above (I expect, never sure where they will turn up!)
The Concert was great the Gala dinner was fun, evening dress, but the choirs were separated so not too many in one room. The conductor joined us. Good meal. Cocktails and wine supplied too. I had a Manhattan, strong, based on whisky, a glass of bubbly and 2 glasses of wine. The some of us went to a bar down the road from the hotel and I had a Margareta and a Pina Colada. I'm afraid it wasn't a good idea , but was fun at the time. Not used to it!
Went to Macy's, biggest department store in the world I think, not for me, too crowded, loud music blaring out.
Journey home was long and complicated, involving a delayed plane, an obese American and a sleepless night. Glad to be home.
Garden has grown like mad. Been picking raspberries, mangetout peas, lettuce, courgettes and spinach. Dug first potatoes
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Dove, I can relate to 'Hoover' troubles, I got a new all singing all dancing vax last year, it wants its many filters changing half way through every vac session or it lies down and makes a noise with no suck, grrrrr,
BL, glad you found some nice things in NY and wow to your OH.
Jiggered. In well earned bath with Mr Cider for company, busy afternoon on 'any gardening ' thread.
OH is working all next week in Berkshire. Only problem is all hotels are fully booked because of Ascot week. So hes stopping at his twins all week. Which leaves me the small job of getting ready for the party on Saturday. Getting numbers of people coming is like herding cats. Somewhere between 14 and 40 is current best estimate. I might need Kef and co to come and drink 12 litres of Pimms. Now, how many sausage rolls do I need?
BL - thanks for the photos - what a fantastic time - I'd love to see the paintings, but can do without the rest so I'll probably not go The concert sounds amazing - well done that man!!!
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
