DD - It is hard to rehome a dog after a sheep incident. It, sadly, is very true that the thrill of the chase is embedded deep in their DNA and once they have the taste for it they will often do it again. Rehoming means putting them somewhere they will NEVER see farm animals again and be honest about the past.
Thanks Steve, I have explained to all the rescue centres what has happened, I don't want any poor sheep hurt again either. Unfortunately, it does seem to be a bit of a deal breaker although someone in Scotland is being really helpful.
Can't believe I live in (ok on the border of) Limousin, famous for cattle, which he is petrified of and my nearest neighbour has sheep!

DD, the problem is that it seems to be the one thing that really brings out the killer instinct in the most benign dog. Once the jack is out of the box, it is never really put back in.
Hello everyone, it's hard to know what to say. I hope DD that you can find a home for Shadow. Verdun I hope your niece's friends and their families manage. There's not much anyone can do but give moral support. Our TV news reports have similar stories fairly often. I don't really understand why young people can't go out and have a bit of fun without this sort of thing happening. So sad.
Just had a catch up on past posts. DD I'm sure the rescue trust will be able to find Shadow a new family to love him, they are brilliant in finding not only the right people but also the right areas so maybe they will be able to place him somewhere where he will not have to see sheep again. Verdun, such sad, sad news what has become of our world. Hugs to all that are in need of one.
Verdun, I've been thinking about your niece and her friends. How terrible for them, they must be really traumatised by such an event. I hope they can get help from someone.
Been a strange day here. (3.50 now), sunny with sporadic rain/hail and wind. The temp keeps dropping even though there's been good sun between cloud movement.
We had someone turn up from the electricity company saying that their aerial survey of power lines indicated that we needed some trees trimmed. The big eucalypt below the house beside a small dam is suddenly of interest to them. So they got going with chain saws and cut several branches from under the power line. We were rather surprised because we keep an eye on those things, anyway, they've done it now. The other trees are next doors pinus trees on our fence line which she's been told about several times. So they had a go at them to. Ho hum.
I'm feeling a bit better after lunch, so hopfully things are starting to get better for me. Thanks for all support the last few weeks, everyone.
Horrible to wake up in the dark, I suppose we will have to get used to it.
Hope your niece is ok Verdun, some wise words from you may be needed.
Also very sorry to hear about Shadow, not much I can say really.
Hope to get some more bulbs planted today, I think this is one of my busiest times in the garden, with all the dividing and moving of plants before winter, and then soon time to lift Dahlias, Cannas and other tender plants.
Have a good day everyone.
