Beautifully sunny here today. The ground is very crispy and unfortunately there's very little I can do outside so I've topped up the birds with enough food they'll burst, nearly broken a toe kicking some leaves that had frozen into a lump, and put some washing outside to air as I've just cleaned all the windows and left them all open to blow through the house and I'll be blowed if I'm having them steam up straight away with all this washing!

Now sat having a cup of tea (and a thick coat on) working out my "projects list" for the year. One of my resolutions was to not start a new project until I complete one. I'm up to 13 projects so far (excluding the decorating) that need my attention what with my half finished quilts, chicken coops to build, herb planters being ignored... so for goodness sake no one inspire me with amazing ideas for the next few months!!

Sunny and cold here too Pdoc - no yomping done but a trip to Homebase for dust sheets completed - does that count?

SL, not only do my roses have buds, but my summer flowering clematis have them too! image

Greenhouse heater thermostat appears not to be working very well. imageimage

    0.2 C at the mo!!!

I've turned it up a bit.  I was going to pot up the erythroniums as the ground is solid. But the compost is solid too, i've put it against the heater to defrost.

Does anyone grow erythroniums? I bought a single one in a 5 inch pot. Do I put one bulb(corm??/) per pot, if so 3 , 4 ,or 5 inch pot?

Must check hellebore seeds for any signs of life. I wasn't expecting any seedlings until March.

We now appear to have freezing fog. A trip to the local garden centre gave us, one packet of mammoth onion seed, some nougat for mum, some half price xmas decorations. OH wanted that silver lametta stuff for xmas  tree, cant get silver, but now have gold for next year.

Also they have a lovely huge new cafe, selling good coffee.

Shame they had bugger all in the way of decent plants to fill the bed at mums, where we are taking up a row of paving slabs. Oh well, I have bulbs in pots that we can use to fill it up until summer bedding is ready.

One of my roses has a bud too - or at least it did on NYD image

Did our feeders this morning image The sparrows out the front seem to be yomping their way through the food image Now have 2 feeders, sunflower seeds and peanuts. Am doing a seed and suet pellet mix in the feeders and they seem to LOVE it image And to make it better the seed falls on the drive and the pigeons hoover up the overspill image

KEF, can't believe you watched that awful film - not even we watched that! image

Weather is miserable here image Such a shame for my last day of freedom image

Hi Fidget, I planted Pergoda and White Beauty after seeing them at a National Trust property (can't remember which one).  Hopefully they will flower this year. Ive planted them in the garden in groups.

Hi from Kingswinford in the West Midlands
  • Hi Fidget, I grew some erythroniums, one per pot in their first season (4 inch enough), and then planted them out in their final positions. However I may have lost some of them. This spring will tell. Are they a bit choosy as to location and growing conditions?

    I will check.

  • Dove, I was just about to post that my clematis has now leaves on it, there was one leaf bud the other day and now there is a clump of 2/3!!! Bonkers.

I got a bird feeder for Chritmas off my M&D, it's one of those pole ones. OH put it out this morning and I put water in it and seed in the seed tray, I just need to get some more nut feeders to hang on it as mine broke.  I love birds in the garden image

Sadly, I've got no Hellebore seedlings (yet) image
