Play it by ear and see how things go Wonky.  Cat's are very resilientimage.

Matty I'm sorry you're still having problemsimage.  Hope a long-lasting recovery is just around the corner.  Congrats to the new homemakersimage.  Wish I could get excited about a washing lineimage

Hard luck, Matty!  But great news about the new home for your family.  image

Re ivy removal:  can they saw through the stems?  The stumps below can be killed with stump killer, and the top growth with something like SBK brushwood killer, though it should gradually die off if its roots are severed.  (In theory.  Though sometimes it takes forever.  image)

Better not to do it this time of the year, unless you're sure no birds are nesting in it.

Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

Hail showers here today, but I really ought to find space in the shed to prick out some seedlings which are getting too big for their boots.

Lovely to be able to hand-feed your robin, Dove!  image

Thanks Liri, I knew it had to be sawn through but was unsure what else. Seems a big job though.

Previous owners kept it in check but.......

Matty, take good care of yourself, it's always about that first and foremost image

Wonky, I think you have done everything you can in the absence of a vet!

My sweet little Burmese Tabitha, Missy, is buried in the garden! After losing one eye, half and ear and coming home with a giant hole in her little chest: something just bit the skin right off. She ran out of lives when I found her in the gutter opposite my house after being knocked over....suffice to say, even the smallest fluffiest cats can be pretty tough unless they fight with a car image

Back from my lunch date and plant shopping!!!!! I did go looking to extend upon what I already have, you know to make those wide drifts and sweeps of uniform shape and colour...but it's always the same, they never have the exact cultivar image but a similar one image or seven?image

I did get two more Convolvulus because despite having three before now, I moved one and it died and the other rotted in its pot suddenly, I think they often come single stemmed and the wind caught it maybe. Anyways, those are for my purple and white garden that was desperately lacking a cushion plant in white. ( I have some many flowering spires and hardly any cushions image)

I also got three Alpine Phlox for the front of the border, white with a blue eye, that should even up all the surreptitious pink happening in my purple and white gardenimage

For the top garden, I got 3 hardy Geranium Claridge Druce to perk up a dull spot and the middle garden got 3 Verbascum Jackie so I can soften some of the hard colouring of orange and red with apricot.

But my favourite purchase was a Honeysuckle called Lonicera japonica Aureoreticulata with an amazing foliage laced with yellow. I', going to plant it with my yellow rose, in a ferny corner with some box balls and orangy Crocosmia.

Can't wait to see all these things through the coming seasons and I've decided I do need a greenhouse for all the propagating I will be doing to extend and sustain these new plantings in years to come image

Hi Wonky - sorry to hear about your poor cat.

Please don't use any disinfectants or antiseptics intended for human use on a cat without checking with a vet first. Some of them contain phenols which I believe can be poisonous to cats. A phone call to your vet should allow you to check for free if there are any that are ok to use but I think they will recommend sticking with warm salt water.

The other problem with cat scratches around the eye is if the eyeball has been scratched it can become ulcerated which is very painful. Vets use a dye to check the surface of the eye for scratches. If he seems in the least bit distressed, the area is hot or swollen or the eye starts to close I would take him asap. The PDSA (one of my favourite charities!) will look after him for a contribution rather than a full vet's fee if you are a bit short at the moment.

I'm not a vet but I do have a cat who gets into a few scrapes... Hope he's ok image

Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down

Sorry for the flawed suggestion Wonkyimage.  Rb and Topbird are quite right and I should have looked it up before jumping in with two left feet.  Hope Flatface is as tough as he soundsimage.

Your new plants sound lovely Winter.  I thought you were going to be restrainedimage.
