KEF, I go to those check ups every 3 years, was every 2 but French NHS is cutting back. One time I was told off by the young lady doctor for being 9 stone. She said I should be 8 stone. I'm 5'3" with size 7 feet, big boned. Haven't seen her since, thank goodness, I'm well over that now.

Morning all! Hoping Friday the *cough* 13th is proving a good one for you.

I went out to scatter the bird food (robin, wren and blackbird seem to enjoy it being served on a silver plate than in a feeder) and the sweet little blackbird (it has distinctive white markings on its tail like its been dipped in a paint pot) followed me around each feeder. Not sure if it was "tame" or just cocky looking for the best bits!

Measuring up the garden tomorrow so we can start working out kinks in the design / budget. I just hope we have some good weather as I'd love to get some clothes on the line too even just to air them - having to dry everything on radiators gets boring very quickly!

Morning all. Very mild here. Done the supermarket, heaving at 7am, you can tell it is Christmas.

Re health checks. GP - Yes. Private companies - beware. People I know have had them, been told they have abnormalities and phoned me in a bit of a panic. What they had actually been told was actually meaningless mumbo jumbo to try and persuade them to have extra expensive checks.

I now have the day to myself. If the rain holds off I might get a bit done outside.

Have a good day everyone. POETS day!

    Back again. Hello all.

Lizzie, bet you were a bit miffed. I was, especially as the one who told me to lose weight was a chunky monkey. I seem to recall telling her if I lost weight my head would look too big, didn't fancy the lollipop look. Did want to say I'd race her three times around the carpark.image As for her advice on how to lose weight image I'd never have guessed that cakes and pastry were fattening.

I'm glad the NHS has offered this check by the nurse and it makes sense to go. However, I have been to the surgery so many times recently with Mum and had battles to get appointments, disagreements about her treatment and attempts to have her take drugs that don't suit her that I feel annoyed before I even get through the door. So no doubt I'll end up having to see the G.P and wearing a blood pressure monitor.  image

    Rant over.

Friday 13th. Will the forum continue working? image

  • Good morning allimage - running late this morning - have been supervising OH in the garage finding Christmas decs!

Now he's gone to work and I need to shower and dress and get on with the day!

Verdun - swimming would be ideal if I didn't go into a state of high anxiety around swimming pools (bad experience as a child).  I've tried everything - special classes, going with OH who's a good swimmer, everything.  I even got panicky the time work hired the UEA sportspark conference facilities, and I didn't even have a swimsuit with me so there was no way I was going near the pool - it's the noise and smell you get around pools.  image  I'm less anxious with heated outdoor pools, but there's not a lot of access to those (Bro has one but that's in another county).  It's so annoying - it's the only thing I get panicky about really. image

If the forum stops working 'cos it's Friday 13th we'll all do our decorations, wrapping and baking and be ready for Christmas on time LOL

    Wow.

My doctor (sporting middle age spread and the kind of face that made you wonder just how much alcohol he drank) once told me to loose weight to "cure" my back pain (several blown discs, two crushed vertebra, several nerve damage, spinal cord kinked and scarred... you get the idea). At the time I was 5ft 9" / size eight feet / huge child bearing hips that make all my midwife friends swoon and tell me I'd "only have to sneeze to pop one out", and eight an a bit stone (dressed). I asked him politely just where this weight was meant to come from as I was rather fondly attached to my legs. The same doctor then told my mother that she was a bit of a fatty (which while true wasn't perhaps the best way of putting it) who would do well to stay away from the biscuit tin.

I'm still amazed mother didn't place her podgy little knee to his jugular.

Sometimes I think GPs are sent a memo around saying "this month is obesity month - you must get XXX amount of patients to loose weight" and "next month is STD awareness month, make sure you insist all 13 year old coming in with their mum because they'd got an inner ear infection have the test regardless of how they protest".

You'll all be terribly excited to hear that I'm wearing my festive socks and have brought in my office desk decorations to fill this engineering office with merriment. So far I've been risk assessed and checked for conformity of colouring.

It had better not stop working! I've run out of work to do in the office today and its a long time til 17:00 ! (Though it would prevent me from coming up with even grander plans for the garden).

  • I was once told by a doctor that 'the trouble with people like you is that you take a bit of exercise then go and eat pizza'.  I did make a complaint about him - I was told he would undergo more training.

I was later diagnosed with a severely underactive thryroid - I'd been complaining about the symptoms for nearly 10 years but had been ignored by several different docs - by the time I was diagnosed I had an erratic heart rhythm and oedema as well as many other symptoms.image

My current GP is fantastic - when we moved house we made sure we stayed in her area.
