Ophiopogon nigrescens - OH saw some and liked it so we bought some - I like to encourage him .
It was when we lived at the last place - I struggled with it in containers of all sorts and gave up in the end - as you say, it never 'looked right'.
However, since then I've seen it used very effectively in 'squares' in formal blueish smooth stone paving - the blue tinge of the stone (like polished blue slate) brought out the reddish tones in the grass, and the smoothness and formality of the surroundings accentuated the textures. I found it really benefits from regular division.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
I think it can look right round the edge of a big pot with something like white lilies. Either that or a very strong colour - red -your pelargoniums - hot pink or a limey, acidic green. Dove's idea is great too - a geometric design using it in blocks for a subtle look like a chess board.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Good morning everyone. It's very dull here. I have to pigeon proof the broad beans,as three have been stripped. Other than that, it's more pricking out to do.I can't find the gardens we have visited thread,so I might put the hidcote pictures on a separate thread.
Not a fan of black grass, but that is as much to do with my lack of imagination as to how to use them. So, I don't try them.
Planted last of broad bean plantlets yesterday... Claudia, and del Monica. If I do as well as last year I will be happy.
Now getting set for our Plant Sale on Saturday, to raise funds for the Hale and Woodgreen Hortsoc. Recent support has been strong and growing so am hopeful.
Also last day of photographing recipes for our village cookery book, based on the old family recipes of those living here. Should then be able to finish off the book layout etc. with the stories that go with the recipe, old photos of granny etc.
Current mild, damp weather is great for the gardens... just cast your mind back to this time last year...

Glad i'm at home today as I overslept and still feel very tired.
Sorry to hear about your roses Bill.
Have a good day everyone see you later peeps
I've caught up a bit more, sorry about your roses Bill, what a shame
I know how you feel Lily, rubbish night sleep and could do with another hour (or two!!), was up just after 6 with a poorly dog after not much sleep
Oooh yes Fg - an acidic green would pick out those reddish shades in the Ophiopogon - sounds lush!!! And Verdun likes those acid shades
Morning Lily and Tracey and any/everyone else who's up and awake (not necessarily the same thing you know
)

Dove, I agree with that one LOL, up but most definitely not awake.
Lily, I'll mail you, save the details from those that don't like hound dogs or may be having breakfast
