planted some Thalia and Jeanne d'Arc crocus today - quite pleased head stood up to the bending. Tulips to do another day and an order for them still waiting to be delivered.
Just made a Tarte Tatin using my own apples - first year of a decent crop - so today we are eating Lord Lambourne
Still picking the runners here Verdun but I guess they'll not last much longer. Then it'll be a good tidy up, the haulms will be stacked in a quiet corner to provide hibernation opportunities for hedgehogs etc, and the broad bean seeds will be sown.
Have a good evening folks - I've got my feet up and I'm on the sofa with OH and Columbo - see you in the morniung
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Hello to Jo, we moved in in April too - feet haven't touched the ground yet - so many plans, so much to do, but all v. exciting! Sure you feel the same.
Went to pull up my beans today but another little crop on them so had to leave them. Did plant some more spinach and some peas though as per directions on packet. Fingers crossed.
Read my copy of GW mag this morning but it is so warm here still and everything seems to be ahead of UK, dahlias in full bloom, summer bedding and baskets still going strong, doesn't seem right to be preparing for autumn yet. Did manage to make a leaf cage though - of which I am very proud, thanks to all for tips and advice.
Being very frugal and dividing my perennials and planting in newly rescued bed, hope some of the old stuff will come back, but lot of gaps to fill and OH being v. firm about not buying new stuff. Luckily the garden club I joined are keen on swapping seeds and cuttings - I know I have a lot of stuff but I don't want a mirror image of bed after bed, hopefully the club will resolve the issue.
Suddenly discovered salvia too and am hooked, what a lovely plant and so many varieties.
Planted some delphinium and hollyhock seeds today (bit late) but again fingers crossed and also a packet of don't know what, mice had eaten the packet, but surely must be good or I wouldn't have bought it! ?
So much to do in the garden I forget the greenhouse. Am going to give it a good clean and bubblewrap it for winter though as per GW instructions, have some agapanthus and pelargoniums I really want to save over winter.
Anyway, that's it from me, very disappointed to have missed French Bingo OH came back from UK with 'man flu' did say he wouldn't mind if I went on my own, gee thanks, caught up with Strictly - not sure can be bothered this year actually, has it run it's course??? But then again good family entertainment, one thing we all manage to do together.
Tomorrow going to try and renovate a wooden obelisk I found buried in a bed and dig up my glads and annuals, and replace with spring bulbs and bellis daisies grown from seed and rather desperate for a new home.
Hope all those with achy bones feel better tomorrow - oh and feel obliged to make a 'Tarte Tatin' now with my unknown but very nice apples!
Good night all.
