David - I agree totally with Dove. If the subject doesn't come up till they raise it, then let it lie. If they mention it again, just say quite openly 'I assumed you were kidding as you must know I wouldn't allow dogs in my home'. I don't dislike dogs, but I wouldn't want one staying in my house - the 'aroma' as you delicately put it! I'm sure you can carry off the 'old codger' very well...
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Oooh thanks Panda, havent had that since i tried very hard but unsuccessfully to get drunk at a wedding i didnt want to be at!, what music does everyone want? Pick a song everyone!
David the only positive to this is that you only have to say it once. If the subject is brought up over the phone rather than face to face I'd say that you've been worrying and feeling anxious about this and hadn't known how to explain that you don't feel happy having the dog indoors. They might be more concerned at you being upset than about not being able to stay. Hugs & good luck.
See you all tomoz' I'm off out in my blinking kagool.

Remember if you have a TV in there that Gardeners World is on from 9.30 now onwards - I liked it earlier than that
Dove - font of wisdom always. xx
However, they know me too well for the 'seed packets spread out' line.
Thing is I drool over the affection between man & dog in 'One man & his dog'. or any working dog......just can't stand these smelly lap dogs.
Oh, and if you didn't notice, I'm a tad house-proud & fussy.
One peach schnapps coming up
