Woody, sad to hear about the fire Hopefully everyone ok physically?
My best friends' house burned down some years ago - she rescued the gerbils - and then had to stand back and watch - fortunately everyone ok and the house got rebuilt even better than before. However, they sold up and moved to another house in the next village - they just didn't want a thatched house again. It was sparks from the chimney that started the fire.

love those photos Liri - thats one BIG landscape. Glad everything was ok on your return.
back to mizzly drizzly here - would rather have some real cold. Garden now looks ready for a cut back in places, but not sure when i am going to find the time for a few weeks.
So far, I haven't heard that anyone was hurt. Also this house wasn't thatched, unlike many around here. The lady of the house concerned is pictured on the front cover of our new calendar, riding her horse.
Good morning, very cold here ( a bit of a shock for us) but fire lit, going to stay cosy all day. Also going to attempt making my own mincemeat based on Liri's claim it's easy and BL saying can't get it here. Wondering what the French will think of it, but what's not to like?
Fantastic pics Liri, really amazing, like Chicky says Big landscape and glad you enjoyed your trip Chicky, does sound fab.
Thank you for all good wishes re. sister, afraid the reply came back already (was an e-mail) she will not move from her current position so having offered an olive branch have had it thrown right back at me. Very upset, but can do no more, she has never been a forgiving person so shouldn't have expected anything else. The thing that peeves me most is the unjustness of the situation, the feeling of being mis-understood and malice attached to my actions where none was intended. Also, complicates family life because of other sibling and of course my own son. Absolutely love being in France but at times like this wish I could just pop over to hers and have a face to face and talk some sense into her - or shake her!
Anyway, mustn't dwell - move on, baking for next few days and of course the dreaded (oops marvellous) running club tonight,

Families eh! You've done all you can do DD - all you can do now is just to let the dust settle and hopefully distance and time will smooth things over.
There are members of my family who cannot/will not be in the same room as each other. Giving them a good shaking (and more) hasn't worked. They and we just have to accept it and get on with our lives.

Hi DD, so many times I've been persuaded to contact my elder sister and offer an olive branch - so many times they found out why I do not keep in contact. It all went to pot when Mum died. Hope it works out better for you, but I know the feeling of frustration / sadness that comes with it.
Thanks Dove, Gemma & Lily, such a hurtful situation, especially as I know what I am accused of saying is absolutely not true. Always seems worse at Christmastime too, supposed to be family time. Not easy. Suppose seeing all the hype around it makes you think everyone is having a lovely time when actually that is not the case. Thank goodness for a small child anyway - life is simple for him, all about Santa.

Hugs DD, know how you feel. For the sake of an easy life I just bite my tongue with my sister...not easy sometimes and probably not the best thing to do, more I let her get away with it the more I expect she pushes my patience! Sending hugs x
