That's good news that the insurance money has come through so quickly @Dovefromabove, hope you find a good replacement car soon. OH shopped around for insurance but couldn't get much of a better deal than our existing so we've stayed with them. He negotiated a small reduction but we were shocked at the price increase this year.
I'm sure being being able to drive again and having a mini holiday/celebration soon will help immensely in your recovery @punkdoc, especially as you love the Scottish scenery. Some really good food is probably on the menu as well!
@Ergates, love that cameliia. My daughter's plants are just beginning to show colour, she sent me pics recently.
We've got non-stop rain as well @coccinella, I'm getting really sick of it.
You are lucky that your local library was able to take your books @Red maple. I have donated the occasional book to ours but I don't think they take them in bulk. But I need to do a major cull too - books upon books everywhere! What an amazing but disturbing dream @floralies - I wonder which Forkers you were meeting in that hotel! Wow @Lizzie27 - how amazing of your son! You must be so proud. Glad you feel up to making the journey @punkdoc. Do you and Moira share the driving? Total grotsville outside - glad I'm staying in today. Last night was the business evening I organised on behalf of the business association I chair. Decent turnout, the speakers went down well and the 'make a difference' award was duly awarded to a very worthy winner. Who was head to toe in sparkling silver - he really is an amazing character in our town and does so much to help people.
Now back to the funding applications for the festival organisation which I'm also heavily involved with.
Sorry I was wasn't around this week. Monday and Tuesday involved fun & games related to my back. Then yesterday I was on the phone setting up all my neighbour's bills to be paid by direct debit. She doesn't need the hassle of posting cheques. I have also persuaded her Grandson to begin walking the largish dog which he (kindly but unwisely) bought her. Her Daughter is not conspicuously burdened with an oversupply of the milk of human kindness, and that may not be so easily fixable. I'm hoping now that her confusion will subside and she will be able to get back behind the wheel again. She has much to offer the world in terms of immense life experience and the vast wisdom which only a long life can bring. Here is something I'd like everyone to think about - with continuing improvements in terms of longevity and health, perhaps being in your 80s is the new being in your 60s.
Hope it stays dry so you can enjoy your stately home visit @Busy-Lizzie
Best wishes for your GP appointment and excellent work by your Son @Lizzie27
@Dovefromabove - it is wonderful that you got a reasonable price for your car. If you can't get another MiTo, and you want something small, Italian and super stylish, have you considered a Fiat 500?
The very mild weather of the last couple of weeks has been replaced by much colder (but more normal) temperatures. Despite forcasts of blustery showers, we are presently enjoying prolonged sunny spells.
To finish, here are my (badly maintained!) crocuses:
As always - best wishes to all :-)
"If you have a garden in your library, we will want for nothing" Marcus Tullius Cicero (in a letter to Marcus Terentius Varro, 46 B.C.)
He has so many amazing outfits @Lizzie27! He also works in a local posh dress shop - and models for them when they do fashion shows! He's an artist, like his husband and together they have written a lovely children's book - The Frog's Kiss. He is so generous with his time to anyone who needs it. He recently helped an elderly neighbour move into a local alms house and regularly visits her. He's also involved in our local Festival and created giant puppets for it last year.
Have you learnt more about your son's deed @Lizzie27? It is nice to hear about human kindness in this bad world, but if he reluctant to tell I understand.
It actually stopped raining at 4 pm Island the sun made a brief appearance so we walked the long way round to post a Get Well card to my SIL who's back in hospital today. My sis has gone over to help care for my brother and the District Nurse called in. Saw these on the way around, very cheerful as are @Badly_Maintained's beautiful crocuses.
We went to a matinee performance of the merchant of Venice. It stars Tracey-Anne Oberman as Shylock, they have set it against the backdrop of the 1936 fascists in the east end of London. I don't normally like modern interpretations of classics but this was very well done. Sadly the wheel seems to be coming full circle again. Rain barely stopped all day here too, so we didn't do anything else in town straight there and straight home.

It was sadly an attempted suicide. @coccinella.
