Gardening in Central NorfolkĀ on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
I have been put in an awkward position. NdN rented her house as a favour and for a year only to a family. Now this family has not respected their end of contract and refuse to budge. This has been going on 4 years. I hear you say, well, not your problem and you would be right as this tenant family is quiet, no bother at all to us. To cut it short my owner neighbour has just been given permission (by the courts I guess) to inspect the house with an independent witness but was not allowed by the tenant to go at the back to take a photo of the state of the back garden (bad). So she phoned me to ask if I could take a photo of said back garden from an upstairs window. I have known her for 25 years, I knew her mum and dad I just could not say no. She wants the house for her son and his wife, so she is in the right really to want the house back. I did ask her to say that I had allowed her in my house to take the photo, not that I took it myself, and she agreed.Ā I just feel extremely uneasy about it all. Feel sorry for the family (not well off with 3 children, impeccably behaved) and my ex neighbour who wants back what is rightly hers.Ā
Another terrible nights sleep, but a good visit to physio, who is still pleased with my progress.
@coccinella, indeed an impossible situation. If it were me, I think I would tell your ex NDN that you can't get involved, because it might make your current situation very difficult.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
Iād be ok with the solution you came up with, @coccinella. Very awkward all round, but sensible to assist your long term neighbour, especially if you will end up with her son living next door. And itās not as if she would have been doing anything wrong if she had taken the picture herself. Sad that the tenants have not fulfilled their part of the deal, and not helped by them not allowing her to inspect the garden herself. If that is all she has asked you to do, Iād relax with a clear conscience, and leave her to deal with the tenants. After the awful behaviour of the tenants of a property my sister owned, renting out often seems to turn into a nightmare. A shame on all fronts, good tenants who need to rent face ever dwindling choices, while potential landlords are put off by paying out more for repairs and replacement appliances than they make in rent.
Afternoon all. still grey and drizzly but managed our usual walk this morning in the dry. I've been able prune the apple trees at last but OH will have to finish off because my right shoulder started complaining - hope I don't end up like you Dove with a cricked neck tomorrow. Do hope yours gets better soon, there's nothing worse.
As you say @coccinella, an awkward situation but you have handled it well.Ā
Sounds like a lovely evening's entertainment @tui34, glad you enjoyed it.
R.I.P. Pike, Dad's Army, he was only 77. That would have sounded old when I was young but it doesn't now.
We went to Diss and OH had photos done for his French visa. I went to the haberdasher and bought poppas for my gardening anorak, which I bought for £10 in a charity shop. It has velcro which is useless and a zip which you can't open at the bottom which makes me feel restricted when kneeling on my kneeler.
Sorry to hear about poorly people, @Dovefromabove, @Allotment Boy and Mrs @Allotment Boy. @punkdoc, it might not seem good at the moment but you do seem to be making good progress. Ever onwards to everyone.Ā
Tricky position @coccinella, I hope it can all be sorted out soon, in a good way for everyone.Ā
Charlie went to a party on Saturday and I was not impressed with a drunken phone call to be collected 3 hours later. He's never done it before, and actually, after the after effects and the embarrassment, hopefully will never do it again, well certainly not to this extent. He said he didn't know many people at he party and ended up sitting on his own and drank more than he realised in what was a very short space of time. He hasn't an ounce of fat on him and rarely drinks, so it hit him hard. No excuse though, the very last thing I said to him when I dropped him off was to take it steady, "don't worry mum" he said, "I'm not stupid." Errmmm!Ā
Anyway, I suppose it's classed as a rite of passage, a learning curve etc. etc.Ā
On a more positive note, I am going out on a 3rd date with my gentleman friend tomorrow. He is very keen it seems, and as he seems to be such a nice man, very family orientated, I suppose I am quite keen too. I feel quite reassured about him because we have a number of mutual friends who all seem to saying what a nice chap he is. One friend has apparently been trying to 'fix us up' for the past 6 months because he believed we were perfectly suited. He does absolutely 'get' that Charlie and my business come first and foremost, he has a son a little younger than Charlie and of course he has the same sense of responsibility. For now, we have been going out, chatting away, having a laugh and enjoying each other's company, both of us very cautious, but also quite relaxed in each other's company. We will see.
Right, reality check, back to scrubbing smoke damaged house and ironing a mountain of of clothes and bedding.Ā Ā
Have a good evening all

Thanks for the good wishes,Ā we think we picked this up last Wednesday.Ā We took my old pal Tommy(from Allotments) up to the garden centre where we both bought our seed potatoes.Ā I noticed on the way back in particular he wasĀ blowing his nose etc. Probably having him in the back of the car we both got it. So much for doing a good deed.Ā

Enjoy your evening all.

I pruned Ghislaine de FƩligonde and Penelope that I'm growing as a short climber this afternoon and did a bit more tidying. The garden bin is almost full, will be emptied on Friday.
Chap came round to look at the garden path that needs replacing. It's rather homemade and made of bricks and pavers which are crumbling after frosts.
