Morning all, it looked very clear and cold this morning when I got up at 7.30 for a cuppa but by 8 had started to drizzle. Now it's dry again so hoping to get out later. We've the hedge man coming tomorrow so I need to clear a space for all the prunings - probably on top of my raspberry patch temporarily.
I'm expecting my sister to arrive late afternoon so the bedlinen's in the washing machine - I'd left it in case OH's friend had stayed the night but he opted to drive back to Essex. I ought to buy another bottom sheet as a spare, I've got enough duvets sets but OH managed to put his toes through one of the cotton fitted sheets!
Read yesterday that exercise and fresh air are the best remedy for disturbed sleep but expect punkdoc already knows that. Hopefully you will feel better when you're able to potter outside in your garden again.
Hope you hear about your car soon @Dovefromabove. We had a nasty shock last week when we got the car renewal, it had nearly doubled to over £400 so OH is researching other companies.
I've got a very weighty tome on Edward 1 @didyw, found it very hard going but interesting.
We don't go to the cinema any more, but watch on the odd film channel we pay for. Some movies are so long, we need to take breaks during them.
You would be surprised at how little I know about many things, and it is so useful gaining other perspectives, one of the many reasons I love the forum.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
It looks as if we are going to have a grey but dry day. I might potter about the garden later. It is not much but 3 hours is better than none @punkdoc. Good that you got out of the house to visit a garden. Last night I slept the 3 + 2, waking up around 3 then fall back to sleep around 5. Why can't I have 5 hours uninterrupted? Nobody knows. I watched the Bafta last night, not usually my thing, but I enjoyed it. I saw both Oppenheimer and Barbie, but never even heard of the other films. Barbie is a very clever film, don't be put off by all that pink! and Oppie is a must watch I think. Long, but frankly it is such a complex story that I don't know how they could have made it any shorter.Ā
Hilary Mantel, she is the best! @didyw. I read Wolf Hall 3 times ... but the other two only once. I enjoyed her short stories too (The assassination of M Thatcher stories).
I also read A Place of Greater Safety by Hilary Mantel @coccinella.Ā I now feel as if I were actually present at the French Revolution!
I also have a weighty tome - on Napoleon Bonaparte @Lizzie27, bought when I realised that I knew next to nothing about his career.Ā But soooo much detail in it!
Hurrah! Just got a good valuation on my car ⦠they increased it when I confirmed a recent service and that the advisory on the last MOT had been done ⦠pleased with that ⦠still not a lot to play with as it was getting on a bit in years ⦠but almost twice what I was fearing theyād offer ⦠Alfa Romeo MiTos have gone up in value apparently because theyāre a low insurance group so popular with newly qualified drivers who want something a bit stylish. Phew! I can breathe again ⦠and start looking around ā¦

Good news about the car @Dovefromabove. You can now start your search in earnest.
Iāve never been to Harlow Car @punkdoc, but believe itās very good. Iām glad you were able to make the trip and I imagine you felt better for doing so. š¤that the sleep issue will start to improve.Ā
Iāve listened to Wolf Hall trilogy on CD whilst doing the ironing (the unabridged versions) which were excellent. The attention to detail is brilliant. She was a fantastic author.
A Place of Greater Safety sounds interesting @didyw, I think Iāll have to look for it.
A sunny afternoon here. I spent half an hour in the garden this morning, still clearing the bramble patch. (I shall be asking for suggestions as to what to do with it, once Iāve finished.) Then we went out for lunch.Ā The sun is now out, so I shall grab my mini mattock and my welding gloves and head out for another session.Ā Great excitement, we have just seen a goldfinch on the sunflowers seed feeder! They are extremely rare visitors here. We get nuthatches, bullfinches, greater spotted woodpeckers and long tailed tits on the feeders, and goldcrests in the pine trees, but weāve never seen a sparrow or a starling in the garden.Ā
