Time for a sit down I think, @Dovefromabove.

Afternoon all, a bit of an scary situation here as the local hospital (the RUH) was locked down this morning whilst we were walking in that direction. We could see and hear the helicopter going round and round and an unmarked police car came rocketing past, all sirens and lights. Apparently a chap was threatening staff outside with what they thought might be a machete. All appointments cancelled and nobody allowed in or out although I believe the lockdown's now been lifted. Think we'd better not answer the door tonight and we'll double lock all windows and doors.

It's been grey and drizzly day so no gardening, although I have just had a quick meander round the garden - I love walking around counting my snowdrop clumps. I also discovered my witch hazel has started flowering a good month early. It's a beautiful, bright orange colour.

Hope @AnnaB is okay now and hasn't suffered any lasting harm.

That was a shopping spree and a half @Dovefromabove!

It is such a pleasure when the bulbs start flowering @Badly_Maintained.

Many thanks for all your kind words and good wishes. Much improvement today, I think due to the fact that I fell squarely on my knees and not at an angle. Daughter arrived home from a gossip with our lovely neighbour to find me shuffling around the kitchen armed with my stick and clutching on the work surfaces. What have you been up to she says? Told her that I had collected an old rope from outside, swung it up over one of our indoor beams and had been having a swing around. Silly girl, what did she think I had been doing? However she rallied round and clambered up to the open roof area to collect my old walking frame that was stored up there over two years ago. Bliss, was able to walk about yesterday evening feeling fully supported and in a relaxed fashion which always speeds up recovery.
Had a good night and everything feeling more settled today, but will continue with the frame for another 24 hours just to be safe. Still feeling really stupid.

That's good news @AnnaB, no need at all to feel stupid, I've had some spectacular falls in my time!

Good idea to keep the frame to hand though.

Just had dinner, fish and chips and now looking forward to GW with a section on roses.

Glad to know that you are much improved today @AnnaB.

Fabulous photos of your birthday celebration @D0rdogne_Damsel, but so sorry about the fire (but thankfully you were all ok). I hope the damage hasn’t been too bad.

Just finished our dinner, too, @Lizzie27. My OH had an annual hospital appointment today, so I prepared a slow pot lamb tagine to greet us when we got back. Very tasty it was, too. Just finishing off with a coffee and digestif now 😁.

    Sounds very tasty @Red maple.

Relieved to read that the police have arrested a man over this morning's disturbance at the hotel, I'll sleep a bit easier tonight.

I am a bit sad though to also read that Jonnie Irwin has died, I liked him as a presenter on Escape to the Country.

Hope it's better weather tomorrow, sounds a bit blowy outside at the moment.

Thank you @Lizzie27. Yes, it was very tasty indeed. We have enough left for another time, so it’s gone in the freezer..

I’ve just read that about Jonnie Irwin, too. Very sad, far too young. Such a brave man.

  • Good morning all,

Beautiful sun rise here and a light frost which is very pretty.

Sorry to hear about your fall @AnnaB, good you had a walking frame at home though, I'm sure that'll make all the difference. Falls can cause such problems, we just don't bounce so well after reaching '27'. 😕

Sad news about Jonnie Irwin, so young. Cancer is such a cruel disease.

I feel like I've been cleaning all week and not getting very far, and the washing machine has been on repeat cycle, I've had to wash virtually everything in the house, throws, cushion covers, towels, bedding, curtains as well as clothes , even the handbag and laptop cases smell. Luckily the weather has been good so able to hang things on the line and keep all the windows open. The terrace looks a mess as all the really damaged things are out there waiting for the insurance assessor to come, I'll be glad to get that lot to the tip. I'm going to ask if they'll pay for the kitchen and Charlie's bedroom to be repainted, they're really bad, and Charlie's room was only done in August, cost me 1100,00€ as it's really big. Fingers crossed.

On a more positive note, my 'date' from Tuesday has asked me out to lunch today, we met for coffee briefly on Wednesday afternoon on my way to collecting Charlie from school. It's been such a messy week, Charlie's teachers were on strike on Thursday so he had to come home Wednesday and get taken back Friday morning and then collected Friday night, with the airport run on Monday I feel like a taxi driver. A nice lunch with my new friend will be a pleasant change.

Right, I really should get on with things.

Have a good day all, happy to hear you're mobile @punkdoc and good to know the gardens are starting to come to life.

I've done absolutely nothing in this garden yet, two containers on the terrace, that's it. I'm watching what happens with it, not a lot to be honest, but it's so big it's a little overwhelming, more like a field than a garden. Anyway, there's time yet.

  • Sorry, I forgot to say, thank you to everyone for your kind and supportive comments regarding the fire. As awful as it was, the relief it wasn't worse put it all in perspective. It is nice to know you're all thinking of us though. Thank you.
