Hi everyone,Ā  this weather alone is enough to make you grumpy @punkdoc, it's certainly doing that to me. Our only consolation is we couldn't do anything in the garden anyway.Ā  Our visitors go home on the 4th,Ā  I'm thinking of asking them to take the rain and dump it back in the Atlantic on their way through.
Ā  We were speculating today about what would happen if we had planted a load of drought tolerant plants, like all the "experts " have been telling us that we have to.Ā  They would all be drowned by now.
We'll wait till 12th night to take down decorations,Ā  hopefully by then my arm might be better so I can lift the boxes in and out of the loftĀ

Got back from the S/M just after one. It must be at least a year, if not more since I last shopped in person, they've now got steel barriers and swing entrance bars just inside and lots more self-service tills. Gave in to temptation and bought a dome of chocolate profiteroles for dessert tonight - my daughter's and mine's favourite. OH can always have cheese and biscuits if he prefers. I also got the batteries we need for the smoke alarm - which didn't go off this morning thank goodness.

it's blowing a hoolie here with some quite seriously strong gusts so do hope my daughter's going to be ok on the M5, she's on her way up from Devon.

"Red maple" hope your SIL pulls through.

I was pondering that yesterday @Allotment Boy as I had been intending to only buy plants this year which could stand drought and very high temperatures. I suppose I needn't worry about waterlogging too much though, being on a hill hopefully means that we have good drainage!

Good to get back in touch @floralies, one of my old friends has promised to phone and arrange a meeting. Haven't met up since 2014!

    Stay safe everyone.

It hasn't stopped raining. But did go to the pool and did my exercises.

Best wishes to @Red maple for your SILĀ

@floralies so much to catch up with your friend. You will remember some things while she will remember others. It's fun.

@punkdoc nobody here will mind if you want to scream in frustration. Hope you have a better day tomorrow.

@Ergates take care. I had to collect birdfeeders this morning after the night's wind. NonĀ  stop stop rain now.Ā

Hope all goes well for SIL @Red maple. Thoughts are with you all.Ā

You were in quite a bit of pain and pretty grumpy last time too @punkdoc … perhaps it’s like childbirth and memory of the pain fades quite quickly as it’s replaced by the positive bits of the experience? šŸ¤”Ā

Its absolutely grim here … all the areas that were flooded a couple of months ago are flooding again and some major routes have been declared closed again! Ā Son is down in Suffolk for work but has rung to say that he’ll be leaving his car in a high part of their compound and coming home in one of the big Merc splitter buses as they’re much higher up. šŸ¤žĀ

Its sod’s law isn’t it … I’ve got a GP appt on the 18th … OH has a dentist appt on the 18th … and now yes had a hospital appoint come through  … yes, for the 18th 🤣 He’s had to change the dental appt and will use a taxi for the hospital appt so I can get to my GP appt.Ā

Thank you all for your kind thoughts. Sadly she hasn’t pulled through. We were hoping for a miracle, but it wasn’t to be.

Hope your daughter’s journey wasn’t too bad, @Lizzie27.
Our neighbour across the road has a birch tree down, hanging across the road and thankfully being held up by a sturdy pine tree. The tree surgeon has been to look at it, and will be back in the morning to take it down. I’ve walked round our boundaries, and nothing worse than dead branches and twigs all over the garden. We could do without this.

    Good evening all.

Sad news for the beginning of the year @Red maple Ā Sincere Condolences.
@floralies - What fun to meet up with a blast from the past!! Ā My friend in Melbourne (who has cancer) and I went to London together in 1971 and we are still reminiscing about old "remember whens" !!
Ā Positive news for the New Year @Badly_Maintained Ā  Super!

A shout out to all (of us) who are experiencing pain at the moment. @punkdoc Ā @coccinella Ā  My friend has gone back to Montpellier - he is back to work tomorrow and I feel finally able to wipe off my brave face! Ā Preparations before Christmas with my sore knee and hip. Ā Family with Irish Setter came for Christmas for a few days - great to see them - back and forth to the kitchen etc. Then I slipped on Friday and bunged up my other hip - friend came - but same old, same old - cooking and cutting together - he was great but I can now relax and eat out of the pot if I want to!!! Ā  :D Ā I am getting around on one crutch still and taking 2 inflammatories a day and a pain killer at night. Ā It's f*****g sore and I am sick of this constant pain day in and day out. Ā  I am sooo tired and have dark circles under my eyes. Ā  Have to wait my turn for an x-ray - 19th Jan. Ā The surgeon will see me straight after so that's good. Ā I hope by then the "soreness" has subsided and nothing has moved. Ā Sorry all. Ā I should have posted on Curmudgeons.

A shout out to everyone of you experiencing wet weather. Ā We desperately need some here. Ā The wind doesn't help. Ā I hope you all are warm and safely inside. Ā I hope your daughter makes it safely @Lizzie27

Have a pleasant evening. Ā I think I will go and pour myself a little Floc de Gasgoigne!!
