Think Wonky will be unable to get to a lot of her customers yet again 🙄. Son isn’t even trying to get to work today. Niece is trying to get back to Uni on the south coast from Lincs. She was going to pay us a visit on her way but we’ve told her to concentrate on getting back home safely … we can meet up in the spring when the weather is hopefully more reasonable.
Stay safe everyone. 🤗
I’m going to the farm shop this morning … don’t think that route is likely to flood … any sign of problems and I’m coming straight back. We’ve got plenty of potatoes and onions. We can live on latkes 😉
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Morning and G’day all. I’ve missed loads of chat this week as its just been work or sleep the last few days. I am determined to see daylight and potter outside this weekend - the forecast is dry (hurray) but cold for the next week or two by the looks.
Glorious sunny morning here, but pretty cold. A lot of the local roads are extremely wet, with streams of run off water from the fields along the edges. I would not like to be a visitor to the area driving down some of the lanes. At least the locals know where the deep gulleys at the roadside are, and don’t make the mistake of mistaking them for shallow puddles. Someone has helpfully put a row of traffic cones along the worst one. I could do with a decent walk but we’ll have to stick to concrete or risk having to pull our wellies out of the mud. Annoyingly, one of my ankles has taken to giving way with no warning. Not very often, but enough to slow me down just in case. Hope everyone is coping with the wet. Luckily not planning any long journeys today, two train lines out of Devon closed by flooding.
Morning all. Finally dry sunny day here in Paris. Can’t believe the amount of rainfall over the past few weeks and it seems to be everywhere.
I’ve already had my first crafting disaster for 24… was making myself a nice new hoodie with a glittery tree of life on the back. Cut it, placed and ironed it on…. Then could not figure out why it was really off center when I hung it up…. Well I’ve managed to put my design on hubbys size 6xl hoodie, using the measurements for my XL…. Not only does he have a sparkly hoodie with weirdly off center design, but I don’t have enough sparkly vinyl to make myself another one…. Feeling stupid now.
Marne la vallée, basically just outside Paris 🇫🇷, but definitely Scottish at heart.
All the fields flooded around here at the moment. Haven't ventured further afield so unsure what the roads are like. I have train tickets for London next week. I checked that there are no strikes but am keeping fingers crossed that the train can get through - and back! Meeting my old uni. chums for a lovely meal and catch up at Ottolenghi's. We've been there before and the food is delicious.
And tomorrow evening we have a drinks and nibbles do for 12th Night. Need to buy the hostess a present. She's into plants so probably a potted hyacinth. And maybe one for me too...
Then I went to the haberdasher's and bought some new needles for my sewing machine. I broke one the other day hemming my jeans. I think it was old and blunt.
snap @Busy-Lizzie. I went out to buy new needles for the machine too. Broke two while hemming jeans, I hadn't positioned the spool below as it is supposed to go.
Oh @Jacquimcmahon, what a shame. There might be something you can do, ask the Garden Crafters thread. Once I cut twice the same leg on a pair of trousers I was hemming. Very disheartening when it happens.
Some roads here are still closed but today it has been dry. Even a little sun this afternoon, going to be cold from tomorrow.
We too watched the Post Office vs the Postmasters. Oh my. I will pass the petition to those of my family and friends who live in the UK. @Hostafan1
I had better check my spool @coccinella. Last time a needle broke I hadn't threaded it properly.
The friend who was going to take OH to the National Express station is ill, other friend is away and the local taxi firms say they don't do Sunday mornings because they can't get the drivers. Several were Polish and, thanks to Brexit, they've gone back to Poland. So OH has decided to drive to the airport and leave his car in a car park there. Luckily they were doing special offer January prices. He'll only be here 10 days then we are driving back to Norfolk together. We'll pick up his car on the way back.
I tried doing some gardening today as the sun came out but I kept getting suddenly rained on. I gave up and had a long chat with Daughter 1 on the phone instead.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

I've watched the drama about the scandalous treatment of the Post Office against subpostmasters.
