Afternoon all. OH and I braved the elements his morning and have been to a couple of garden centres this morning. Wished we hadn't bothered. I was frozen to death after visiting one which had lost some of the roof and it was so cold my hands, with gloves, were hurting they were so cold. Even OH said he was cold. The second centre wasn't much better and we didn't bother looking at the plants outside. Raining and windy.Β
We did get a new Christmas cactus as our last one didn't fare well, and some tall canes and netting for OH's beams and peas.
Im still trying Β to thaw out.

Good afternoon all. It has never stopped raining here which is very frustrating. I am really needing to get into my garden. Things still need a good tidying up. @Biglad, I am glad my green bin is emptied all year round. I don't know how you manage with not knowing what day the green bin refuse collectors are coming at this time of year. We get a calendar every year which includes the mention of changes to collection days due to major holidays.
Busy and Debs, my optometrist advised the same sort of treatment with boiled, cooled water for my eyes.
Hazel, you get a gold star for venturing forth in this weather. It does seem as if it is colder where you are though.

The log man has been, except she was a log lady. We've stacked the logs, didn't take long, not like the huge truck load I get in France.

The house painting man has been too, says we should get the quote this evening. He can't paint houses today as it's raining so he's doing his paperwork.

Busy, good you've got a good log supply now and here's hoping your house painting quote isn't too expensive. How are your eyes today? Any better?
It's still raining here but we are due high winds again this evening. Here we go again....

Hello all. The winds have started buiding up here already Hazel. Another nervy night to come. Busy, I think that you will find those logs coming in very handy!

Fortunately, we get told the dates of the collections from March-October @Ladybird4. It's just this 'special' winter collection that they don't specify. I suppose that it's a change to their normal schedules and probably depends on how many folk leave the brown bin out this time. They probably can't pin it down to a specific day in case they get round more quickly than estimated. If I had to put money on it though, I'd guess Thursday. There's half a dozen bins out that I can see (out of about 20 houses). Tonight could see them all blown to the bottom the hill!

@Biglad the worst thing that can happen is that they all get blown over and their contents get distributed all over the neighbourhood. That happened to me once in as much as my garden acted like a magnet for my neighbour's rubbish and I had to spend the next morning picking all their trash up. I ram my bins into my hedge and 99% of the time, this is enough to stop them wandering away.

I am signing out now. See you all tomorrow. I am wondering if my mention of my new cat's name provoked the plethora of spam postings today. Many of them referred to 'cricket'.

Blowing a gale here now. A large plastic dome had blown off one of the pots and was making a real racket outside so OH went and retrieved it...he's popped it in the wheelie bin for now. The gusts of wind are horrendous and the shrubs and hedges are being rocketed to blazes. Think we are in for a very noisy night. Β See you all the morning, I hope. Stay safe everyone.

It feels a lot windier than the previous storm tonight. Can hear a number of dubious rattling noises. Like drainpipes/guttering flapping around but it's probably from next door.

If my bin falls over and the contents spread round the neighbourhood, everyone's garden will be getting a Christmas tree mulch :D@Ladybird4Β
