  • @Ladybird4 and @Songbird-2 My oh flirted with the idea of a hybrid car (never electric) but looked at 2nd hand prices for our car and reckoned the comfort (heated seats etc) and good condition didn't justify swopping. We are eligible for bus passes but I think the last time we caught a bus was a trip to town with eldest GD 10 or 11 years ago and that was because of the scarcity and price of parking where we wanted to go. (I call it town but Southampton has actually been a city for decades).

Good morning @Mrs-B3-Southampton,-Hants - you were an early bird this morning! If I have any appointments in my town I always use the buses - I am lucky enough to be on two good bus routes, one that runs hourly and stops virtually opposite my house and one that runs passed the top of my Lane and only involves a 10 minute (or so!) walk to the bus stop and these buses are every 20 minutes. such a bonus when you are not sure how long you will be in town.

Good morning to all later arrivals. I've just spotted the bin wagon in the Crescent so at least my second bin has been sorted for this week. Maybe I will be able to get some more tidying up done in the garden soon and i can begin to fill it again.

    Morning all.

There is no public transport where I live in France. In Norfolk there wasn't either until very recently. There is a bus once a day to the local town which only gives you about 1 1/2 hours before returning. We find a car is essential and an electric one wouldn't be practical.

Cold in south Norfolk, frost and phone says it's -4C. I think we'll have a quiet day.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

Morning - a cold, frosty but sunny morning - I love winter days like these.

Need to venture out to the post office to return some items bought online in the sales and to see if they can cash some ancient US dollar travellers cheques. We want to get some more dollars before we go to Argentina. Inflation there is so high that most businesses prefer you to make any cash payments in US dollars rather than Argentinian pesos. We need some low denomination bills for tips etc.Β

LB - we are flying to Berlin from Heathrow. Using cheap staff standby tickets which means we don't know for sure that we're travelling until we're in a seat with somebody up front indicating emergency lights and exits. Appear to be plenty of empty seats on our chosen flights so should be ok. If not, we just wait for the next one. For 2 days we can travel with just hand luggage and it's cheaper and much quicker than driving. The hotel room has a small kitchenette so we can self cater for breakfasts and supper if we want to.

OH and his mates did get the planes moved around the other day thank you. Took them all day - suspect much gossiping and putting the world to rights was involved.Β

We also couldn't manage without our cars in our rural spot. One (temporary) bus service a week on a Wednesday morning to town. I think there's a service to bring you back - but I'm not sureπŸ˜‚. Nearest train station is 4 miles away. Sad that several older people have recently been forced to move out of the village because they can no longer drive.Β

Rubee - hope you feel better soon. Seems you've had a nasty bug. Sounds a little like Norovirus. Take care.

Good morning Busy and Ruby. It's warmed up to 1Β°C here, sun is shining but it has been sleeting on and off. I retrieved mine and neighbour's bins - tippy toeing on the ice - and filled the bird feeder in the back garden. The one out front is still half full. I noticed two little mice gleaning on the seeds dropped by the birds. I know that Cricket has spotted them too!
Busy, as I said before, I would not be without my car. My car is classified as a mild hybrid. It doesn't need charging but uses a battery powered electric motor. It cannot be driven on electricity at all but as an MHEV it produces lower emissions and has improved fuel economy.
I am pleased to hear yet another improvement in your battle against the dreaded 'bug' Ruby. You could be fully over it very soon πŸ‘πŸΌ

    Morning all,

We had another light snowfall overnight but that should be the last of the white stuff for now.

I've only just been out to get the milk in (well it won't get warm out there, will it? ;)) - another 3-pint Friday instead of the usual 1. Can't blame Mr Milkman for having his Saturdays off really.

Not quite old enough for a free bus pass @Ladybird4 - I'm 27 you know! We're a 10-minute walk into the centre of town but would usually drive for speed/convenience. Until eldest buys a house, we're a 3-car household. The more I think about it, the less I see the need to keep my car. Maybe I'll see how many miles I do until the insurance, MOT, road tax is due and make the final decision then.

Thoughts on Mr and Mrs Hunter choosing Storm as their daughter's name? (Australian tennis player). Could've chosen Man, I suppose :DΒ Β

Morning T'Bird. That seems like a great idea for a mini break. Just make sure that they are not flicking a propeller to get the plane started! I do feel so sorry for the people you have mentioned, having to move because they can't drive any more. What a dreadful and upsetting situation it is - especially if they have lived in the village all their lives. I cannot even imagine the stress they must go through. Good luck on your PO trip. By the way, I take it you passed your virtual medical with flying colours?!
