Good morning everyone . Lily ,so sorry to read you had such a bad night .I do hope you get out and have a walk to the duck pond. I am sending you a big hug too .Ante do take care taking down the outside lights .LB sorry to read about your neighbors flooded garden . I hope they are safe from further flooding. Is your garden ok LB ? This rain is becoming a real problem .Do take care .
Good morning all. Slept so well last night I think it was down to spending time in the garden.
I had a really fancy 3in 1 squirrel proof bird feeder for Christmas so looking forward to seeing that being used. Also a hanging frame filled with alpaca wool that will go out in February and hopefully be used to line nests. My family know me very well. Alpaca wool is apparently perfect to line nests as it is waterproof. Fingers crossed the birds like it.
@star gaze lily hope you can get a walk today nothing like it to make you feel better
Another cold and damp day here, rained in the night and all the ground is soaking wet. Not, fortunately, under water like some of you might be or your neighbours gardens. I hope the waters recede pretty quickly. LB, hope you manage to find your way to the Quiz meal this week, drive carefully and keep an eye on the weather. Don't want you getting stuck somewhere. Debs, what thoughtful presents you've received. I particularly like the Alpaca frame, full of their wool, idea. The birds should love that. SGL, a walk out in the fresh may blow the cobwebs away and clear your head a little. A bit of a walk out for us yesterday, did the trick, as we had had a bad nights sleep and were feeling rough. Ante, go steady getting the outside lights down, don't want any accidents. We have had to order some telescopic ladders for OH as our outisde lights have blown their bulbs and they are far too high up to get to using his ordinary ladders. I hope son may help him because, at his age, I'll be frightened he falls. We also have some mortar coming away from the house eves which he fancies repointing eek😬😬😲 Son must definitely be here for then....hope he may do it for us.... A quiet day planned here whilst things start slowly returning to normal. Children back at school next week.
I have just been outside to fill my birdfeeders and unfortunately I broke one so I will be looking online for another one. Debs, my feeders have squirrel baffles on them and I get alpaca wool for Spring time. The birds love it. I think I mentioned last Spring how funny it was to see the great tits flying away with what appeared to be huge 'moustaches' of the wool.
Hazel, definitely need your son for those jobs. My big ladders I got a few years back are very useful as they have handrails and a platform on the top also surrounded by rails. I still get my neighbour from across the road coming over to keep an eye on me when i go up to clear out the gutters (not at the top of my house of course. I would not even dream of doing that!)
The small people round here are back at school this Thursday.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
Afternoon - and a very Happy New Year to you all. We have heavy rain and an amber warning for very strong winds later this afternoon - lovely!
OH had a dental check up in town today at 10am, so I took him and dropped him off and headed for the SM. When we drove back at 11am the river in the neighbouring village had burst its banks. We crawled through on the crown of the road but the depth of water was on the limits for my little car. Glad I'm not driving home from work this evening. There is only one other route home if that road is closed which would involve a very long detour.
Town was very quiet and very different from when I went to Cambridge on Friday - it was absolutely heaving. Seemed to spend most of the time in John Lewis stood in a queue - for the loo - for lunch - to pay etc etc. Queue for the changing rooms snaked right round the store. You'd have to be pretty desperate to want to try something on wouldn't you?? I gave it a miss!
No question of working outside today so I've done a bit of cooking an admin and I'm about to pop over to my friends for a cup of tea.
Stay safe, keep warm!
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
Hello all. Good news about the alpaca wool @Ladybird4 I am hoping our local birds love it too.
Spent the morning cleaning and reorganising the pantry which always gets very full and untidy. I keep “Tupperware “ in there not the real stuff but that’s what I call plastic boxes. I have about 50 boxes and about 70 lids and most of the boxes don’t have lids to fit them??? Not sure how that happens. I now have about 25 boxes and lids fitted together and a lot of recycling. Many of my nice clip top boxes have disappeared I give them to family with leftovers inside and don’t get them back. I try to buy recycled boxes now to help the environment a bit.
Lazy afternoon with a book and chocolate it’s pouring down here again
I went to the SM and stocked up. I wanted to take the summer duvet to the cleaners at the SM but they have closed down. They had a good value duvet cleaning service. There was a notice on the window to say a vaping shop will open soon. How awful, bother it.
I've finished oiling the stairs. They now have a soft sheen. It's non slip and feeds the wood, so it says on the tin. I've watched the Christmas Strictly Come Dancing. I really want to get on with the garden but it's always raining.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

Sending hugs to @star gaze lily. I hope you feel better today.
I washed and oiled the wooden stairs yesterday. It was DIY, not HW. Previous owners had sanded the varnish off them.
I need to go to the SM, hardly any fruit, veg or milk left in the fridge.
OH is back in Norfolk and will be flying here on Sunday.
For @star gaze lily...
Love and best wishes for you lily. We all understand how hard this is for you.
