Morning all. Very windy night with howling and roaring going on. Sun is out now but still blowing. Where mum is is supposed to get a battering today and over into tomorrow so hope all is going to be okay there.
I am going to try and catch up with a some indoor jobs today but energy levels are very depleted just now. Don't know why but OH is the same.ย
@star gaze lily, i did that too, trying again about later on in the AC drama, but gave up again.ย

Afternoon all. I've just had to dash (aka walking faster than normal) to bring my wet things off the string outside because there was a mahoosive hail storm and that quickly turned to Marti again. I reckon I'm in for the rest of the day now.
Hope you had a good meet up with your mates @Biglad before you get super glued to your desk and laptop again. I hope that you do have New Year's Day off.

I went out this morning to a local GC and bought Rose de Rescht and 3 hebes. I was really looking for a shrub for dry shade for Son 2. Woman in the GC said the hebes would be OK with that. I'm not sure and I never think they are that hardy. Mine always died in the winter. The 3 were on offer for three. Bought 6 more bags of compost. 2 good ones for rose planting and 4 cheapo for mulching. Monty D said not to add compost and fertiliser when planting but he hasn't seen my clay soil. His soil, which he says is clay, always looks lovely. I bet he's put loads of compost in it. Peter Beales says to add BFB when planting.

I'm having a quiet afternoon. Need to relax after all the family noise and it's been raining so garden is wet.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

    Good afternoon,

Well, itโ€™s turned back to the usual very wet, chilly and blustery weather after a fairly reasonable morning. Glad we got the SM shop done then. Itโ€™s time to batten down the hatches once again.

OH is busy making tonightโ€™s dinner I said I was having a day off ๐Ÿ˜ (but will make the fruit crumble). Heโ€™s making cottage pie, and it smells delicious ๐Ÿ˜‹.

I persevered with the 2 part Agatha Christie adaptation, and although it wasnโ€™t disastrous, it was not one of the better interpretations of her stories in my opinion. I enjoyed the two that were shown in the afternoon much better - Witness for the Prosecution and Murder on the Orient Express. If it is ever repeated, I wonโ€™t bother with it.

Did anyone watch the 3 part series by Lucy Worsley about Agatha Christie? If not, itโ€™s worth a catch up. I thought it was very interesting. (BBC2).

@Red maple, yes, I've watched Lucy Worsley before with her programme about AC, very interesting and is worth, IMO, worth watching. I do like LW though. Hope you enjoy the tea, sounds delish. How is your ย OH's wrist doing?ย
We have been waiting in for a glass clock delivery today, to go in the study. You've guessed it...when we opened the package, there was a lovely big crack in the glass so it will have to be returned. It's lovely too, a green glass Art Deco style one.
Ive had some material out on the string today but it's not dried but smells lovely of fresh air.ย
Busy, you deserve a big rest after your recent family get togethers, sounds exhausting๐Ÿ™‚

I will be watching that after Uni Chall Hazel. I am signing out for tonight. I've been having trouble with accessing the forum and VM have informed me that they want to reset my hub - which takes about 20 minutes so I'll let them do that after GW. Hopefully see you all in the morning. Night night all.

Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
  • Morning everyone, rained during the night. I could hear it pounding on the windows and so very windy again.ย
It's pitch black outside still, so can't see the garden. But the wind has stopped and I think the rain has too.ย
I start seeed to watch the new two part Agatha Christie yesterday afternoon, rather weird, I gave up too @Songbird-2
Hope you meet all your neighbours later @rowlandscastle444 ......but there's always cake ๐ŸŸ๐Ÿฅฎ๐Ÿฉ๐Ÿช๐Ÿ˜‰
Have a good day everyone, take care.
Well, our "open house" was a success, in my opinion. Several neighbours came, and stayed all afternoon.ย
Very quickly got to understand why this area is so popular. Such a lovely group of people, and I will enjoy living here.ย
So pleased so many people came.ย

A very good morning one and all.
@rowlandscastle444, it was so nice to read that your 'open house' went well. I am blessed with fantastic neighbours too and it does make you realise just how lucky you are.

I am hoping that I have some time today to do a little bit more tidying up in the garden today. Like Hazel, I have spotted loads of bulbs showing through now - mostly snowdrops at this time.
