Off to the seaside town for a few last minute presents, and coffee and a pastry. Quite busy, not surprisingly. @D0rdogne_Damsel, I’ve just seen two young lads with identical fringes to Charlie’s, obviously very on trend! Had a lovely catchup with the neighbour yesterday. She lost her husband on Christmas Day last year, but seems to be coping. She has relatives coming to stay over the holiday, so won’t be alone. Very hard time of year for her. We had an Evri delivery scheduled for between 5 and 7pm yesterday, but at 5.20, got an email to say it wouldn’t be coming but would be delivered tomorrow instead. Today, we have had an email to say it will be here between 5 and 7 this evening. I wonder? Pleased we didn’t bother to stay home just in case. Hope the birthday boys had a good time? Sounds like your op might have got delayed anyway, @punkdoc, with the junior doctors strike this week. Will give you a little extra time to recover from your current disorders perhaps? Rather horrified at the lack of care given to a friend who had her hip replaced in mid September. Saw a nurse to have her dressing removed, and then a couple of subsequent appointments to confirm that she had developed a blood clot . Her follow up appointment is booked for the second week in January. No physio offered or available. Is that usual?
Morning, @Pat E. Hope your weather isn’t being too extreme today? Just woken at 4am, and it’s really windy out. I hope the Christmas lights OH draped over the acacia haven’t got blown down. They are a bit sparse, but do look pretty twinkling when the branches move. We managed a walk by the coast yesterday, well wrapped up. There isn’t much to look at apart from the sea, rarely any ships in view, and in the twenty years we’ve lived down here, I’ve only seen seals about five times, and dolphins twice. The coastline here is more interesting, as the cliffs are red, a bit prone to rockfalls though. A big contrast to your dry conditions! Have a good day, and hope the results from the tests are what you’d hope for. I took this a few years ago. Sidmouth, about ten miles from our home.
Lovely pic @Ergates 😊 11C wet and windy here in Norfolk and we’ve slept in … OH is at home today and son has, all going well, finished at work for a few days. He’s going to drive down to Suffolk to do a present delivery to dear @WonkyWomble and her Lovely Hub on my behalf later in the day … and I’m waiting in for the Cooker repair man who said will be with us today … he’s not sure what time but he said hopefully later this morning. 🤞
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
It’s windy here too! The cats think every leaf that blows outside is a mouse and are on duty by the patio window!
Busy day today as taking Dad for Echocardiogram then food shopping (I’m suggesting he does me a list so I can bomb round while he has a coffee). I hope it’s not too busy with people stock-piling Brussels Sprouts! I was in another SM in the week and the people in front of me in the queue bought 15 bags of potatoes! They were really rude to the cashier when she said she needed to count and check the bags (they had already put in a bag). I feared the worst… that they might have sneaked some steaks under the potatoes, but no - they were just disrespectful.
Have a good day everyone- may illnesses take a break, cookers be mended and the weather calm.
So irritating, I've had a email from the post. They said I was out when they came to deliver my parcel, roses, at 7.50am. I had no notice that they were coming. I was lighting the wood burners but I hadn't opened the electric gate and I didn't hear them ring. They don't usually deliver before 11am.
DIL has asked me to bring a Christmas stocking when I go to them for Christmas. I can't find them. I gave some to my children when I moved. The rest are in a bag somewhere, probably in the loft, unpacked. I've found a pair of long woolly socks for wearing in wellies.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
And heartfelt sympathy for @WonkyWomble. What a stressful situation, thank Heaven the bank will reimburse. Any idea what happened?
My son in London has water dripping from the ceiling, so he asked upstairs and they have it too. Infact the whole of the flats on the same flank. Lewisham Council only deals with emergencies at this time of year. Isn't water pouring down the walls an emergency? The flat on the top floor has the worst, so there must be a blocked gutter. There should be a routine check, it's an easy thing to fix ....
Lovely, lovely photo @Ergates. Lucky to have the sea nearby.
That's a worry for your son @coccinella - and sounds very much like an emergency to me.
I remember that beach @Ergates! I had a boyfriend in Sidmouth for a while when I was in my teens and went to stay with him and his family. He took me out in his rowing boat and then we had a picnic on the beach. I had no sunscreen and got horribly burnt, so my overnight stay resulted in his mum looking after me.
Foul weather here today - the pleasant stroll around our local shops will be a mad dash instead.
Morning everyone, grey and damp again here. At least yesterday was a bit brighter. The family from America arrived yesterday. They were all very tired as apparently no-one got any sleep on the plane. They didn't give a reason. So we just went to say hello and left them to it. We'll see them again tomorrow. Sorry to hear about various woes, hope they are all resolved soon. Happy solstice.

No wind here, looks as though it has rained.
Good luck with the cooker @Dovefromabove.
